How would you "style" this dress? I have recently lost a fair amount of weight and haven't worn anything like this for yonkeroonies....

I have bought this dress (in black) for a party on Saturday night:

French Connection dress

It's quite dressy but the party isn't so I want to dress it down if that makes sense.

Anyone got any ideas for accessories?

Seriously out of practice with this kinda thing as I am usually the person in the tent in the corner but since losing 3 stone I am looking forward to shaking it up and looking more "on trend" (or whatever it is magazines say...).

Oh, and I'm 35 - so nothing neon. Or teeny-bopperish.

Being the other person in a tent in the corner I can offer no advice. Well done on the weight loss though and the dress looks fab.

boolifooli · 01/04/2010 22:22

High heels and some high impact lippy? Lovely LBD BTW x

MintyMarchmont · 01/04/2010 22:31

I would wear ankle shoe boots or cage shoes and have smoky eye make up and nudish gloss lips

Supercherry · 01/04/2010 22:31

A waist cincher belt such as one of these from Next? High heeled boots this style but not necessarily these

Some casual jewellery such as a few bangles and earrings.

I would probably wear some opaque tights too to tone it down a bit.

Glam up the make up and hair so you still feel fab.

drloves8 · 01/04/2010 22:32

mid height shoes and funky earings/bangles.

MintyMarchmont · 01/04/2010 22:32

I woudlnt wear any jewellry. the dress is enough

Supercherry · 01/04/2010 22:33

ok my second link didnt work but yes gladiator style shoe boots iykwim?

DrNortherner · 01/04/2010 22:35

I agree with ankle shoe boots or cage shoes but VERY high. Loads of chunky bangles and possibly some chunky beads.

Loose hair and smoky eyes.

No to a belt.

ifancyashandy · 01/04/2010 22:35

Shoe boots or heeled gladiators but mid heeled (Aldo have got some fab ones). No tights. Slightly messy hair and smokey eyes / pale lips as suggested above. And a long gold necklace - one that looks like you've had it for ages and just threw it on. And then a plain black cuff braclet in either leather or resin / plastic. You'll look gorge whatever!

Supercherry · 01/04/2010 22:35

I think the dress is quite safe and needs a bit of jewellery, at the very least earrings. Just go casual though not dressy jewellery.

Supercherry · 01/04/2010 22:37

Black nails quite trendy, if kept short will give the look a harder edge. Footless tights with shoe boots look quite funky and less dressy.

Supercherry · 01/04/2010 22:38

No to a belt! Don't you watch Gok??

ZakuroFujiwara · 01/04/2010 22:40

great suggestions - thank you millions.

do you think you can wear ankle shoe boots/cage shoes if you are chunky of calf though? I still have about a stone to lose on each calf

Supercherry · 01/04/2010 22:44

Why thanks Zakuro.

ifancyashandy · 02/04/2010 08:46

Re the calves question - just make sure (if you're wearing footless tights) that there is a slight gap between them and the boot and that the boot (if it has a strap round the ankle) does up on the slimmest part of said ankle. Have fun shoping / partying!

ifancyashandy · 02/04/2010 08:48

OOh and THE most fashionable nail colour at the mo is a kind of mink / putty coloured. Makes nails look v. long. Bourgois do a lovely one (and did you know, thair make up is made in exactly the same place / by the same people as Chanel?!)

YoginiZonini · 02/04/2010 08:49

Great dress. You'll look fab. All advice needed already given! Have fun!
