Fake tan for VERY pale skin

Could anyone recommend a good fake tan for my extremely pale skin? I just want to take the blue sheen off my legs so that I can wear a skirt on holiday next week, not to look properly tanned. Previous efforts with fake tan have all been a disaster. I have red hair and the kind of skin that just doesn't tan at all in the sun, the most I'll ever manage is a few freckles, but I'd just like to look less ghostly underneath the factor 50!

What have you used in the past. I have tried loads and none really work that well. I am now going to try the wash off type.

How about trying an aftersun with tan extender? I am pale/blue and find it good for making me look human. I use a Clarins one.

vinomonster thanks for that, I'll give that a shot.

I've tried loads in the past - from memory, and just to name a few, St Tropez (way too dark), a Nivea one, a Clarins one that, Johnson's Holiday Skin (just clung to knees and ankles despite lots of exfoliating, rest of leg stayed white). A good few years ago (probably 10 years!) there was a Bodyshop one that I loved, called something like Watermelon fake tan, but they don't do it any more.

The wash off type are great and that's what I use if I just want something for a one off like a wedding, but it would be a bit of a faff to put on every morning on holiday.

Patsy Palmer has developed a range of self tanning product specifically for pale skins. I think the range is called Palmer Cutler. Don't know what it is like as have not tried it myself but just thought I would let you know.

I have red hair and pasty white skin, and find fake bake 'fair'works brilliantly.

Have tried bloody loads!

I like their legal sunburn too- a pink blush to give you a sort of rosy glow like you have actually seen the sun

A light spray tan and wash it off after half or 2/3 of the time recommended. Sienna X is not orange so good for red-heads, there are different 'numbers' - 8 is the lightest, I think, 14 the darkest. The 8 just takes the blue glow off your legs, and it lasts a week-10 days.

I use a lancome gel - the one which goes on with a bit of colour. Have also heard that the fake bake fair is great but not tried it. Agree that St Tropez and Johnsons holiday skin are both no good if you're very pale. I used to use clarins but they have discontinued the one that I like.

I have fair skin and use anything. But mix it half and half with moisturizer.

squeaver · 01/04/2010 21:19

The Dove version of Johnsons Holiday Skin, I like.

GrumpyFish · 01/04/2010 21:22

Thanks all, that's great. Quite a few to choose from there that I haven't tried, so maybe there's hope for my blue legs after all!

Rimmel holiday shimmer mixed with moisturiser

Have a look at Boots website. People have rated the various fake tans.

The SOAP and Glory one looks interesting

I mix Clinique with moisturiser. The best I had for my face was sisley, about ten years ago, but never been able to afford it since!
