Right then ladies, I need an new outfit for a job interview....

I am looking for a new job (redundant last year) and suspect the reason why I haven't had a successful interview yet is my outfit!

I have been poling up in an old Boden wrap dress which was dressy at my old work.

Anyway I have another interview (at last! first one for 4 weeks) next week and need something new to wear.

What shall I go for? My career in media has left me with a pared-down wardrobe of smart lycra Ts with tailored trousers or scruffy skirts and boots. This will not do.

New potential role is still in media but maybe smarter? I am 5'6" with curvy figure but a size 12-ish if that helps pick a style.

What would you wear to an interview?

Oh and it needs to be from a reasonably mainstream store. Oh and I don't really want to spend more than £100 if I can help it.

Pretty please?

Need to go and try some on. Maybe a small trip to town tomorrow?

Not busy after all - DS2's b/day party on Sunday, cakes to bake arrrghh

I like the shape - not sure if it might hurt your eyes though!

Mmmmm - cake................

Clary · 02/04/2010 19:37

Oh yeah cake, birthday cake is this one made in double quantity in a big rectangular tin then decorated with mini eggs (I think...)

won't the national trust be rather...ahem ..........conservative? I wouldn't go for sleeveless dresses to be on the safe side

I would always wear a jacket to an interview, even if not always required on the job

FYI Cos clothes are beautiful but not cut for curvy women

Clary · 02/04/2010 21:24

Yes I was thinking conservative, hence panic!

I am more left-wing in terms of dress, myself

Agree no to sleeveless dress, unless you have a jacket which you won't remove.

rimmer08 · 03/04/2010 15:32

if in doubt buy a suit, sometimes employers dont like anything too flashy

Clary · 06/04/2010 14:17

woo hoo back from town today - went to Matalan and tried on four suits - much better than M&S which had nothing even slightly nice in the right sizes.

Anyway bought really nice plain black pencil skirt and jacket this one with skirt plus cream shirt and fab cream and black shoes for a bargain £25 all in! Don't buy black as a rule but that seemes to be all their was anywhere!

Thanks all for help on this one. Fingers crossed for tomorrow.
