Calling all you swimmers!

I'm looking for a swimming costume to do some fairly serious swimming in - may be doing a triathlon later in the year - and the crappy old M & S costume is not really up to the job. The thing is that all the Speedo type things are very sheer and not so good for the slightly (ahem) fuller figure. I really need something with a built in bra/cups. Is there such a thing or have I totally lost the plot??

Bravissimo do some by oz brand Zoggs which have shelf type inserts which are cup-sized. Up to at least a size G.

I don't think the underwired type ones would be that comfy for serious swimming TBH and they tend to be made of less chlorine-resistant lycra. Having said that I do lengths (up to 40) in a Panache one from Bravissimo with underwired cups without problems.

Good luck with your triathalon - I would love to do one but am crap on a bike.

horridhobo · 29/03/2010 21:25

Thank you Chewy, I will have a look at Zoggs.
It doesn't have to be underwired just with more support than the Speedos and not such sheer material - they don't really leave much to the imagination!
I am also crap on a bike, and - TBH - not much better at swimming but I am doing my best to improve.

Will watch this with interest as I have the problem of being size 8 but with breasts size 30F - and also am very short, so swimming costumes always too long in the body. I thought maybe a tankini might do the job - could buy a fitted cup and size 8 pants - but haven't seen any at all. Even Rigby and Peller don't have any. Here's a link in case they're any good for you.

Have a look at Bravissimo, Beatitude. I have just looked and they do have performance swimwear and seem to have wide range of cup sizes - also tankinis.

i like speedo sculpture. they are very solid but still fairly big. sorry if you have tried them horridhobo.

otherwise look for professional swim sites, there are all sorts of strangely patterned odd garments.

tootootired · 29/03/2010 21:42

I've got this Panache tankini in a G cup. It's the first tankini I've had and to be honest it does tend to separate alarmingly. The fit around the top is brilliant though and I should think the swimsuit version would be great. I measured myself carefully and bought it from ebay - perfect fit.

Zoggs also do a sports suit in large cup - called Bondi I think.

tootootired · 29/03/2010 21:45

Here you go: zoggs Zoggs Bondi swimsuit there is a tankini too.

Shock absorber have brought out a swimsuit too but it does look a bit black and school-regulation.

HerBeatitude · 29/03/2010 21:50

Look look I found this site too. This one's tankinis, but I'm sure they'll have swimsuits as well if you want...

Thanks - some really useful websites here. To be honest, I had almost given up!

If you're doing a tri you will need to wear a sports bra in the pool anyway for the run?

I'm guessing that will be ok on the day but not ok for training. Er ......so not sure why I posted really :D

Petsville · 29/03/2010 23:03

I'm not terribly impressed by Zoggs, I have to say: I've just bought a maternity one from them and my old non-maternity Speedo is actually much more supportive (I've rocketed up to an H cup since getting pregnant so this matters). But their sports ones might be better.

horridhobo · 30/03/2010 11:29

I'm not sure about wearing a sports bra for the run - one of the many things I will have to find out about! I was thinking that I would probably have to get a proper tri suit for the actual day, and was more looking for something to train in for the moment.

BikeRunSki · 30/03/2010 20:39

OP I could have written your post, and have just bought this Land's End.

horridhobo · 30/03/2010 21:53

Thanks BikeRunSki that's the sort of thing I'm looking for - But when it says "bra shelf" does that just mean very thin lining or does it have a proper internal bra?

Hmmm - I'm a weekly swimmer but small of nork so can't really help other than to second the suggestion to get a Land's End catalogue - supposedly very good for supportive swimming costumes. Beware though - as we found when DH once ordered some trainer type things from them - you will still be getting the catalogues when you collect your pension.

MiniMilk0610 · 31/03/2010 14:50

I've started swimming again recently & am breastfeeding so needed something a bit more supportive - bought this one has inbuilt bra cups, altho is not underwired, and has also got extra support in tummy area. I've found it really comfortable to wear & holds me in in all the right places

horridhobo · 31/03/2010 21:17

Thanks for all really useful links - many places I wouldn't have thought of looking. Now no excuse not to get back in the sodding pool........
