Joe Browns

I've had a Joe Browns leaflet in a magazine and there are actually several things in there I like - has anybody bought from them? I am "between sizes", 10 in some places and 12 in others; do you know if they come up big or small?

I am a size 10-12 also. I buy a 12 from them if I am layering but a 10 if not.

I haven't had any trousers or jeans from them though.

I don't know but be careful. once they have you on their list you will be sent catalogues for EVER, I heard of someone who went to work in Mozambique and still they tracked her down.

They must use satellites or something.

Divatheshopaholic · 29/03/2010 11:16

Fliight? They must chipped her, if they sent catalogue to Mozambique

boogeek · 29/03/2010 11:16

LOL! How about if I am sneaky and do it through amazon, will they still find me?

I tried two dresses from there ('distinctive denim' dress and 'boutiquey' dress).

Sadly I had to send both back as they fitted on the hips but were too big on the bust and shoulders. However I'd say that the sizes were pretty 'true', ie don't come up particularly big or small - it's just that I'm pear shaped so a different size on top than the bottom.

The quality looked good, though obviously I didn't have a chance to wash and wear them.

Their customer service seems good and they did the refund fairly promptly. It's not free returns though.

TracyK · 29/03/2010 11:24

I'd say they aren't overly generous sizes. I'm a 16 and sometimes they come up a bit tight over the bust etc.

Fliight · 29/03/2010 11:26

They will find you

Btw, please don't fall for the hotch potch dress I think it might be called. It's the one with a weirdy asymmetric hem (that's all of them then) and some kind of patches sewn on, that actually look like you have got your underwear on on the outside. It is kind of superman wears a frock type effect.

I will forgive you any of the other stuff, if you just promise me not that one. Ok?

Fliight · 29/03/2010 11:27

So named because ONE person has bought it

Fliight · 29/03/2010 11:28

i dare not look in their 'warehouse clearance sale' somehow

ShadeofViolet · 29/03/2010 11:33

i used to really like Joe Browns but I have to say the quality has become dire - don wash well or fit well either.

Last time I ordered 5 items and sent three back

boogeek · 29/03/2010 11:40

Fiight, that link doesn't work?
I have ordered a couple (um, 5) tops and a braceletty thing. Daren't buy trousers online because of freakish short legs/wide hips combo.
Have not fallen for anything hotchpotch: some of their items are really, um (searches for polite word), unusual, aren't they.

Oh and some shoes that I expect might be going back

OP posts:
Fliight · 29/03/2010 11:53

Oh sorry, it is called 'The Individual's dress'

which made me laugh

If you look it up you will see what I meant about the underwear.

castlesintheair · 29/03/2010 11:57

Their sizes are very small. I'm not partic tall (5'8") and a size 10/12 - ordered a size 14 tunic type top which my 6 year old DD might have just been able to squeeze into.

ShadeofViolet · 29/03/2010 11:58

I thought you wer talking about the 'one of a kind' dress - look it up, its erm, interesting!

TakeLovingChances · 29/03/2010 12:05

I ordered two pairs of trousers. One was a pair of jeans, one were black slacks.

I'm a size 12.

Both of the trousers were too small, so I sent them back and got a 14. Still too small in the thighs, but baggy in the bum! So I sent them back and didn't bother to re-order.

I get their email AND postal mailings. I keep meaning to cancel the postal one.

A good thing about them is that they were prompt sending the items out.

mslucy · 29/03/2010 13:53

the sizes are very small - ie if you are ten in every other shop on the planet buy a 12 unless a normal ten is very, very loose on you and you really need an 8.

Some of the stuff is nice but some of it does look straight out of Camden Market circa 1993.

And not in a good way.

moondog · 29/03/2010 14:06

Mozambique tale is hilarious.
