Ok I'm 40 next year. What should I start wearing?

I'm a jeans and uggs person. I'm horsey so Joules and Dubarrys sometimes. I like fat face and stuff like that.. All saints if i can afford it. If I'm stuck I'll wear shirts and v neck jumpers with jeans and ankle boots maybe. I love hoodies. Have they got to go?

Advice, please. I know that make up should start getting 'softer' but I don't wear much of that anyway...

Not much help but why should you change what you wear? Wear what you want to wear!

To be fair, I went through a phase of trying to do the "linen" elegant look. Pointless as I am not tall and slim but 5'5" and curvy.

I'm 44 and am going through a phase of leggings, Uggs and very loose tops/sweaters/sloppy doo-dahs. In summer, I'll go to my normal wardrobe of little skirts and great shoes.

Don't let 40 bring you down. I believe 40 is the new 28!

Yeah I hear what your saying but for the sake of my teenage daughter I don't want to lose sight of the fact that I am no longer 21 even though I still feel it. She (my dd) has started doing the jeans and uggs things and so I just thing its about time I moved on a bit

If you do want to change things a bit, then could you look at someone whose style you admire and go for something similar?

I think there is nothing more dangerous fashion-wise- and ageing- than to think "Ok I am now xx age , so I must wear/mot wear...".

Dress according to your looks, figure, and budget.

it's more about covering up any bad body bits- such as flappy upper arms ( please hide themthis summer anyone who has them)and not doing anything plain daft like showing yards of muffin top and cavernous cleavage which just looks cheap at any age, as well as wearing girly ruffles and tiers if your face doesn't match your outfit.

Seriously, you don't have to soften anything. Just wear what you like.

But if you want something new, think what clothes the Daily Mail would caption "Davecameron wore ...... despite turning 40 this year" and wear lots of them.

Possibly anything with motifs- such as NEXT T shirts.
Sometimes it's the small details that make a difference- eg you can still wear jeans and skinny jeans but maybe a darker wash rather than bleached. Maybe swap the Uggs for a nice leather biker boot? Short, above knee skirts look a bit tarty IMO with high heels past a certain age, but can look fine with pumps of flat sandals. I think it's just a case of making small changes- but all this is just my opinion!

I gather clogs are "in" this summer. Now, all we need is a vogue for hairnets and housecoats and us over 40s will be sorted style-wise.
