Am short and fat - needs tips on looking tall and thin

Or at least taller and thinner if it's possible.

Have been running and doing aerobics DVD's between feeds and nappies but the weight is not coming off fast enough and I feel like a blob.

Added to which, I'm off to a Christening on Sunday and need to buy something which I'm going to feel good in. I'm not going to be able to hide in my jeans and oversized t-shirts for this one!

I'm 5'1" and about a size 14 at the moment but look more like I'm about 6 months pregnant as my weight is all around my tummy.

I think one of those fairground mirrors should do the trick

GoldenSnitch · 25/03/2010 23:10

Cheers!

Heels, straight line of colour and clothes. Think tall, think thin, slink around being willowy. Confidence is all and remember us tall skinny girls just want to be curvy!

WilfSell · 25/03/2010 23:34

S'a joke. It's what I do.

meltedmarsbars · 25/03/2010 23:36

Sounds like the baby is very young?

Leave it, stop stressing yourself - take it gradually.

..and breathe!

Earthstar · 26/03/2010 07:09

Deep v neckline
wear a tall hat

GoldenSnitch · 26/03/2010 07:09

Yes, she's 14 weeks.

I do not "pop" back into shape.

Took 2 years with DS and the thought of waiting that long makes me want to cry

Appreciate the joke Wilf but I'm feeling a bit sensitive about this.

Deep V could help with the BF while out ;)

this looks flattering over the tummy, maybe add a bright cardi or pashmina and statement shoes?

GoldenSnitch · 26/03/2010 07:24

I like it

Is black OK for Christenings? I know you're not supposed to wear it for Weddings

Yes, go for bold with a scarf and shoes and stride out - everyone will accept that its not easy to "pop" back into shape after a baby - no-one is judging you.

Just keep in your mind that it will come back eventually, with all the running around with toddlers - well, mine did, mostly.

redshoesnoknickers · 26/03/2010 09:05

I think black is fine - especially if you add some bright accessories. Plus it's a nice all purpose occasion dress so you will prob wear it again too

fishie · 26/03/2010 09:09

when i am fatter (egg shaped) look much better in sticky out knee length skirts and wrap tops, it seems to balance me out.

when i am less fat (carrot shaped) it doesn't suit me at all, so you need to work out a different style for your current shape.

fishie · 26/03/2010 09:10

my sis has this in purple looks fab and she is size 18.

morningpaper · 26/03/2010 09:14

I am about 5foot and size 14, although I carry it around my arse

OK you need MAGIC PANTS, these will make you feel tres confident

Also ENORMOUS shoes but with a quite thickish heel - try on a few until you find some that are comfy. Peacocks do quite wide as does Matalan. (Am cheap slapper)

Pluck eyebrows and do make up

morningpaper · 26/03/2010 09:15

that dress is nice - go for a small cardi in a bright colour with matching accessories and shoes

you will be distracting people with your breasts - always handy

GoldenSnitch · 26/03/2010 09:59

Right, off to attempt shopping. Got to take my 3 year old and 3 month old - wish me luck

morningpaper · 26/03/2010 10:33

yuck good luck

buy some chupa chops

GoldenSnitch · 26/03/2010 14:49

Oh that was hell!!

DD spent the first half of the trip screaming in the back of the buggy while DS sat at the front leaning out to touch everything, asking for snacks and telling me he needed wee after wee!!

Ended up with a black dress that comes just past my knees, black tummy holding tights (to go over my magic pants) and a pink shawl to hide under while feeding. I will dig out some black shoes later.

I'm going to have to pull the dress off my shoulder to feed but hopefully, we'll be able to hide under the shawl and it won't be too obvious.

It's far too dressy for what is essentially a trip to the church followed by a buffet at their house but at least I'm likely to wear the dress again.

Will put off any further clothes buying trips till DD is old enough to be left behind I think. Or until hell freezes over, whichever comes first!

You have done very well!

I remember my first shopping trip when DD1 was a baby. Came out of the changing 'stall' in Gap in my first post-preg jeans to look in the big mirror and the assistant suggested that I try a looser style.

Just give yourself more time.

morningpaper · 26/03/2010 16:37

yes you have done well

I remember just staring at myself in the mirror and crying my eyes out and coming home with nothing

I hope you enjoy it!

GoldenSnitch · 26/03/2010 16:46

tears may yest come. have convinced myself it's far too dressy and am panicing now.

If I was going to wear black, I have some leggings and a tunic top I could have worn and saved the money!
