!!!! Just remembered I have to go to a Christening on Sunday and I have nothing to wear!!

It has suddenly occurred to me that we are attending the Christening of DH's best mates daughter on Sunday and I have nothing to wear!!

And I really mean nothing too - we had a baby girl of our own 13 weeks ago and non of my old clothes fit me yet!

Can anyone suggest something cheap-ish that will hide/disguise my mummy tummy?

I hate shopping - I never know what suits me. A situation not helped by the fact that I feel really fat and uncomfortable in my own skin at the moment and am really not in the mood for looking in the changing room mirror or having to go out to such a public event.

I'm probably about a size 14 at the moment. Not a huge size on anyone else but I'm also only 5'1" tall and it really doesn't suit me.

Needs to be something I can go and pick up on the high steet and won't cost too much as we're a bit stretched already this month.

Any help would be appreciated.

I wish I could help you but I have a rusty sense of style (I'm browsing for tips myself). Maybe if I bump this then someone better than me will be along.

For what it's worth we always think we look worse than we actually do when postnatal, don't be worried.

Thankyou Muminbeds

I'm probably way out with these, but here you go:

M and S £22. Is this too plain?

Same as before. Reviewers rave about it being slimming...

M and S again! Oh well... £25

Good luck with the search

MrsTicklemouseWantsBunnyEars · 25/03/2010 16:50

I really like hula's first link

GoldenSnitch · 25/03/2010 16:57

The first is my favourite too

I have a GG cup chest at the moment so I would worry that the slash neck on the 2nd would just make me look very, very wide.

Love the print on the 3rd but there's not much going on to cover my tummy.

They're great. I would not have thought of looking in M&S

In fact the more I look at the first, the more I like it. Just got to keep fingers crossed that they have my size in when I go and look tomorrow...

Baby brain strikes again. I'd forgotten to take into account that I'm breastfeeding at the moment. Going to need something I can get a boob out in.

The description says the dress is stretchy, but is it stretchy enough I wonder?

Can hardly hoik it up to feed!

If you can get to a Bravissimo shop, this is a real wrap dress, not a fake one, so a bit easier to loosen off? More expensive as well, though, but I promise it does look better in rl without being accessorised by hideous dark turquoise tights as in website pic

I live in MK so we have a Bravissimo. The selection of dresses is usually pretty small but it's worth a try... Thanks

hula i really like the dresses you chose - they are fab and dont break the bank, i am going to buy the first one and i dont even have a christening to go to!

will you be my stylist?!

golden snitch - hope you find something fab. Stretchy can be moved down for feeding and use a muslin to cover up. Or try seperates - i got a top and skirt from hobbs that worked when I was feeding - and I've worn them loads of times.

I havent a clue how to do the links but they may have something on their website.

GoldenSnitch · 26/03/2010 08:13

I'm definitely going to M&S today to try the first one on. I'm really hoping that it's stretchy enough to pull out of the way for feeding as it looks gorgeous.

Might have to get it anyway for after I've finished feeding if not

I'm thinking dark-ish tights and heels to try and elongate me a bit too.

Right, I'm off shopping. With a 3 year old and a 3 month old! Wish me luck

good luck.

GoldenSnitch · 26/03/2010 14:58

That was no fun at all

DD spent the first half of the trip screaming in the back of the buggy while DS sat at the front leaning out to touch everything, asking for snacks and telling me he needed wee after wee!! I walked round and round M&S but couldn't find any of the lovely dresses that hula suggested. Tried on a few other things but they looked awful.

I texted DH and told him that I wouldn't be going to the christening as I couldn't find anything to wear.

Then I wandered into Wallis and found this

It's far too dressy for what is essentially a trip to the church followed by a buffet at the parents house but at least I'm likely to wear the dress again. It's loose enough to fall over me without showing off my tummy too much too.

I'm going to have to pull the dress off my shoulder to feed but I've bought a bright, pink shawl to wrap around us to make it a little less obvious

Going to wear it with some black, tummy-holding-in tights I've bought (with magic pants underneath just to make sure) and some black shoes I already own.

Going to put off any more clothes buying trips till I can get a babysitter for both children on a weekday I think. Preferably after DD is weaned so I don't have to rush back to feed her. I hate shopping. It really is no fun at all.

What a shame about M & S and their lack of decent stock, but that looks like a really lovely dress and I'm glad you feel comfortable in it [thumbsup] [wave] [justpushingmylucknow]

GoldenSnitch · 26/03/2010 16:44

Thanks hula. We have a second M&S and I'm quite tempted to see if they have the blue dress tomorrow as a back-up.

Bit worried that I'm going to feel daft all dressed up.

MumInBeds · 26/03/2010 18:15

The Wallis dress looks lovely and I'm sure you won't feel over dressed - I pink shawl sounds just the job.

If you do decide to go to the other M&S then maybe bring a print out of the page or the product code (T421129) so you can ask at customer service if you can't find it.

messymissy · 26/03/2010 18:25

the wallis dress is so pretty - it will make you feel fab!

You wont feel daft all dressed up, you will look like a very yummy mummy - so enjoy it!
