Petite Ladies - Do you wear Maxi Dresses

SandylovesZsadist · 25/03/2010 12:36

I'm trying to decide whether to buy a maxi dress - I wasn't sure whether they would just make me look smaller and being 5ft 1in I could do without that.

I think if you keep it simple and not flouncy, so more of a column dress and find one designed for petites it will be fiine. (but I have decided I am going to get one - and I don't think my height is an issue, I will either look good or crap, I am going to start with a very plain black one, to wear with flip flops)

BusyMummy78 · 25/03/2010 12:46

I've seen maxi dresses in some of the petite sections - it would be worth trying one of these because the proportions should fit better and you probably wouldn't need to take it up.

I'm same height as you and also want to try a maxi dress this summer.

BooKangerooWonders · 25/03/2010 12:52

No, I'd look like I'm wearing someone else's clothes! Need some leg showing.

traceybath · 25/03/2010 12:53

No - but they can look good - think Nicole Ritchie.

I'm 5ft and slim but they just don't look right on me really.

Perhaps would get away with one on holiday but would need to be very slim fitting.

bishboschone · 25/03/2010 19:28

yes, I am 5ft, slim and I have worn them for the last 2 summers. I love them. I second the no flouncy vibe . Make it fitted all the way to the floor. I think they look fab. Of course I may be deluded!!

Clure · 25/03/2010 19:53

I am 5'1 size 6-8 bought one last summer and never had the guts to wear it! it has shirred top like a sundress and straight down, not too flouncy. think it looks nice, its just me! I agree if its not too fussy or gathered it can look nice. I reckon go and try a few on

bunsandroses · 25/03/2010 20:07

bishbosch where do you find dresses that are fitted all the way down. I can only seem to find them with flounces and would love to have a maxi dress but quite simple.
I think they can make look you look taller.

FiveOrangePips · 25/03/2010 20:16

asos plain but a good basic?

bishboschone · 25/03/2010 21:07

I have a lovely one from h and last year . I haven't managed to find any fabulous ones this year but have bought some ok ones from river island. One is black very flattering the other is stripy. Have a look on their website. They also do a grey and red one. I always wear them to the floor with flat sandals/flip flops. I love them!

bishboschone · 25/03/2010 21:10

Ps. Also bought one from kids section in h &m that was £7 . That one is really nice and a bargain. Just need some sun!

SandylovesZsadist · 25/03/2010 21:16

Thanks for all your replies.

Bish: I didn't realise River Island did petite - will take a look.
