I have been lurking on the curly girl thread for although my hair is dead straight my dd age 3 has beautiful strawberry blonde curls/ringlets to just above her shoulders If your child had curly hair what do you do with it?!!

wide tooth comb only when sopping wet. never ever brush.

scrunch (plop) dry not rough dry with towel.

leave to dry naturally, no hairdryer.

spray with water/detangler between washes to boost curls.

use clip at the front to keep it out of her eyes (fringes not great with curly hair).

Never ever brush!

Exactly what Norah said

Thnak you both for replies. If she wants to grow it is she better with long layers or all one length? Does it matter at her agee what shampoo I use?

some long layers are a good idea to stop her hair turning triangular shaped. however, you need to be careful of a hairdresser cutting layers as they would for stright hair, your dd may end up with 'shelf' hair IYSWIM.

she rather needs to go in with her hair nice and curly and DRY, then the hairdresser (or you ) just snips at some of the ringlets to give the desired shape. if you look up lorraine massey (who wrote the curly girl method) on you tube you will find clips of how she cuts curly hair, and how others have copied her method.

i often do dd's myself, just snipping at ringlets. rare to find a hairdresser confident enough to cut this way though i find.

re the shampoo- i use halos and horns on dd, and only once a week or less. just soak the hair inbetween. i will encourage no poo method as she gets older and her skin is less sensitive.

I've always cut my own DD's hair myself, following Lorraine Massey's book as my guide. I use the CG no shampoo method for her (and for me too), with no brushing or combing and drying naturally. No more morning screaming tears (for either of us ). We both started when DD was about 4 or 5.
