Tips for growing out short hair?

I am currently trying to grow out my once pixi-style crop. However, at the moment I seriously look like I am sporting a mullet by choice and it's getting me down. I just clip my fringe back every day and the rest of ym hair looks like a lego man bowl cut. It's horrible.

I do need some highlights which I think will help a bit but I'd be keen to hear of any tips for disgusing that horrible in between stage. What is the current headgear trend? I am willing to consider anything!!

Watching with interest. I've just been having mine 'tidied up' every 10 or 12 weeks. It is driving me insane. I can't clip my fringe back due to a high forehead. I've even considered a wig!!

get it trimmed every 8 weeks. yes it takes longer but it means you don't look like you have a small animal growing on the back of your head.

grow longer layers but get it thinned. good luck. how long?

Try clipping the front back with or without a quiff, try clipping the fringe to the side maybe? how about one of those thing stretchy headband and push the whole lot back, or one of those flexi comb headbands. I tend to use headbands quite a bit when its hot or wet and windy, or when my fringe needs a trim. Just dyed mine dark red because i'm bored waiting for my short bob to grow out.

How long/what style do you want to grow to?
I remember sporting a hairband & keep having the back cut straight across.

Hairband v good idea indeed. I like wearing my hair pulled back when it's long so that might work for me, thanks.

I do the quiff thing a bit already, it's the back/sides that annoy me really. Headband would solved sides and cutting the back across might work too. It feels so counter-productive to get it cut though when I just want it to grow longer! But I do think drastic times call for drastic measures.

I don't want to go really, really long - just about shoulder length I think.

I had a lego man bowl cut look going on too until recently!

I decided to stop straightening it, so it is now uber curly - I had a full but whispy fringe cut in and use combs to clip the sides up.....the comment I had today was "Oooo your new hair looks sooooo pretty!!"

I'm 42 fgs...."pretty" was NOT the look I was going for...but at least she didn't shout "Oi lego head..." I suppose!

Thick plastic hair bands look quite stylish but I tend to save them for 'going out' as it can look a bit 'school marmish' for everyday.

Little tiny butterfly/bulldog clips in black or brown. Use one to clip each side up and one for the middle (but to one side a bit iyswim.)

Are the sides long enough to tuck behind your ears? Try moussing it damp and doing a major side parting, tucking behind ears. Then see how it dries and add more products. Might end up a bit Emo and one-eyed, mind.

I kept the back fairly short until layers were grown out.

Avoid hairdressers like the plague. I've cut my long tresses off twice & grown it out again. Second time round I stayed away from hairdressers, i had my mullett cut off a couple of times but that was it....it's definately the quickest way to get the length back.

Buy some lovely clips, maybe Jonny Loves Rosie? This is nice www.hqhair.com/jewellery-accessories/johnny-loves-rosie/crystal-round-flower-clip
