I'm a Summer - Help please

Thanks to everyone who helped me on my previous thread, I had my colour analysis workshop yesterday, I really enjoyed it.

It turns out I'm a summer, so lots of lovely pinks, blues, lilacs a monet watercolour in fact

I had a quick look around a couple of shops today, I was working in another town so not my usual ones, which might not have helped, but even with Monet in mind and the swatch wallet in my hand I struggled.

I would be really grateful if any "Summers" would link me to some of their recent purchase to give me some ideas.

Very Monet

nice... similar in pink

What sort of clothes are you looking for? Do you do dresses, or are you after something more casual?

Any good?

I'm looking for spring/summer tops mainly, until I've done the style day, but I'm also desparate for work trousers and/or skirts, that aren't black and an evening dress, all my dresses are too big so I need something on standby.

I suppose the other thing I should have said is that I'm not looking for investment pieces at the moment, I'm planning to lose almost another 2 stones, and I'd rather save my money to buy some really lovely pieces when I get to target.

The East dress is lovely, the consultant recommended a trip to John Lewis so I'll have to find time, there isn't one locally so it's a day out really.

Dresses are difficult as there is a lot to think about in one garment so not the easiest place to start. The East dress is the right colours I think but is very floral and will be rubbish on some personality types (Gamines for example), it also has a v neck and very angular shape at the top in particular so not good for rounded body shapes (but OK for me ). The Oasis dress looks as if it is too warm a pink for a Summer but it is always hard to tell on a website. The dress also has some waterfall trim on it so again it depends on the personality type as it whether it will suit.
Tea - remember that you don't need to match the colours - you can have all shades in between the swatches. Ask yourself cool? or warm? Remember your key words.
A basic A line skirt in your colour is good for most shapes/personalities and M & S have a linen mix red one for £25.00 which most can wear. Get trousers in one of your neutrals and here I think fit will be all - you will probably need to forget personality here in a bid to get fit and colour! You will be able to give personality with the rest of the outfit. Remember look at each garment in isolation and do not buy things to go together. If you buy from your palette it will all go together anyway. Once you have your style you will learn to use accessories to give these boring staples a bit of oomph with belts, jewellery, scarves, bags etc.
I'm sorry I can't link to clothes as I'm Spring so way off beam but I'll have a look at stuff for you if you want. I say again that the kettlewell website helps to show the colours for the seasons and how to put them together. Oh and get your lippy sorted -that makes a HUGE difference.
Needs a bit of a different approach to shopping! You will get there - you wait! Hope this helps a bit.

Dorothy knows her stuff!
I'm a sweet pea Summer and was in a very similar postion to you until recently - not wanting to buy many clothes until I'd lost weight (only 1/2 stone to go now so have started tentatively).
Excellent advice about not worrying about what clothes will 'go' with, and the same applies with colour; everything you buy will now match you so you will pretty much be able to mix and match all of your wardrobe.
I've swapped black for my dark neutrals: navy, dark brown and dark grey in winter, with the addition of winter white and cool beige n summer.
Can't link as haven't figured out how to on my itouch, but I recently found Noa Noa had a lot of summer colours, also Avoca Anthology, and Kookai had some good neutrals. And Oasis have a lot of navy and royal blue ATM. Haven't ordered any yet, but I've seen mauve/grey/navy skinnies at Uniqlo.

My style personality is Ingenue (not sure whether Classic or Natural), and knowing this has made a huge difference. I tend to wear jeans or trousers in a flattering, basic cut, then make sure whatever top or dress I wear is in my 'style.'

it sounds a bit daft, but it does work.
I'm supposed to wear pretty, delicate shoes, for example, but this winter have bought a pair of Fly Midas for practicalities' sake, but whenever I wear them I feel like a great galumphing idiot - although I like the look of them on other people (more 'natural' types, I suppose).
I read somewhere that it takes on average about 3 years to get your wardrobe fully attuned to your style and colour 'rules,' so be patient and enjoy!

Thanks for the advice everyone, I think you're right ourladyofperpetualsupper it's going to take quite some time to get this right, and luckily most of the very minimal wardrobe I do have is more or less the right colour.

Dorothy I definately need to swap my black for my neutrals as and when things get too big, I think that's the best starting point, and also I need to look for spring/summer tops in the right colours, I'll probably start with a few basics from Kettlewell.

Thanks again.
