Smart casual top for a man????

MrsAMoose · 16/03/2010 12:43

My DH's birthday next week (43) and he really struggles to find tops to wear to the dreaded 'smart casual' work events. He usually ends up wearing a smart, colourful shirt with jeans or smarter trousers but I would love to find him an alternative. Can anyone help me find a nice one? He's 6'4" and slim-ish (bit of a belly! but hot a huge big beer belly!)
Many thanks in advance!

You ever watched Dexter?

You know thwe tight long sleeved t shirts he wears with the buttons half way down the front? They are nice smart casual as long as the man wearing it has a good body.

Or a blue and white striped shirt that has a creased look (not a smart shirt that you tuck in) always works well for smart casual. Most men look good in a white and blue striped shirt over jeans or cords.

or, provided he has the body for it, a lumberjack shirt, fitted, like this

this looks great on my BF

just make sure it's not short sleeved

another possiblity

classic

ala dexter

and another

Loving the lumberjack shirt - thanks overmydeadbody. He will probably think it's too young for him but I love the Superdry stuff.... the material is soooooooooo soft!!

And the dexter shirts you linked to are lovely - on the right body as you say. Do you think they are smart enough? Am right with you on the short sleeved shirts being a no-no.

Glad you liked my suggestions! Yes the superdry shirts are soooo soft, I love stroking them!

Hard to say whether the grandad shirts are smart enough, I tihnk they are definately smart enough for evening drinks in bars of pubs, or at dinner parties etc., perhaps not smart enough for more formal 'hosted' events, but they do look good don't they?

Get him some Dexter shirts anyway, every man should own one (provided they have a good body)

MrsAMoose · 16/03/2010 13:21

Oh bum.... none of the nice dexter tops are available in size large or extra large.
And they are so damn cheap too!!!
I think it's more the hosted events we have a problem with.
