ok so normally I am just a jeans and t-shirt gal! I admit it. Plain tshirts and bootcut jeans and boots. That's it. Baby due 24th may, and DH and MIL have said they will treat me to a clothes shopping trip post baby and I have NOOOOOOOOOO idea what to get!!! I have bigish boobs (38E atm, pre baby was 36dd) size 16-18 top. 14 bottoms usually (only put 4lb baby weight on so far fingers crossed I don't have too much to lose!...10 weeks and counting!) I have quite thin calves and thighs, tiny size 3-4 feet. I would like to be more feminine, but really don't feel comfortable in all the girly dresses!!! I have booked myself in for a hair overhaul tomorrow as its been over a year since it was cut

TIA!

ooh, thats really nice of them. i would just say, book your shopping trip for about 6 weeks after baby is born, just to be sure that the clothes you buy wont be too big soon after.

i didnt have much to lose either but it took a while for me to fit back into my pre-baby clothes, because even though i lost the weight, my shape has changed :P

if you dont feel comfortable in dresses, why not invest in some really well fitting trousers in lush fabric, that you could wear with heels for instance. and how about some more feminine shirts to go with...you dont have to wear dresses to be feminine! add some fab shoes to a great pair of trousers and you will feel a milion bucks!

also, dont know if you are planning to breastfeed, but if you are, think about accessibility

have fun!!!

Hello girls,

so important to think that way AnAngelWithin! What I mean is that so many new mums don't look after themselves (I know it's hard I am a new mum too), but if you make effort just a tiny bit it really pays off!

I agree with crlimum on all her points. My baby is nearly 4 months and my biggest thing at the moment is heels, heels, heels!!!!

I haven't worn them since I was about 6 months pregnant (have lived in ballet pumps and Ugg boots), so just putting a pair on makes me feel so much better. But I admit it is not easy to walk in them

The only other thing I would add is that this may be the time to accessorise. Scarfs, rings, necklesses all add a lovely touch and you don't need to worry about sizes post baby.

TBH I would postpone buying anything expensive/tailored until much longer than 6 weeks after the birth. Even if you loose the weight straightaway you will remain a different shape for a good while. I turned into an apple shape and bought expensive clothes that suited at the time, then a year on I had a waist again, by bra size (back size) had changed and I really regretted buying all those clothes only to kind of start all over again - I especially regretted buying seven jeans 4 months after having DD1 and them being too big at 1 year on

topshopgirl makes a good point about using accessories - I usd necklacs/scarves/bags to change looks, when most of what I was wearing was cheapish jeans and kimono style tops (actually ths were silk and from monsoon so rather luxurious and were very flattering....)

PLEASE don't buy anything for at least 10 weeks- I lost all my baby weight plus and extra half a stone in this time (I put on 3 stone as well!)

I now have lots of waisted 14 clothes

i will just add:
its true you might not fit in clothes you buy a year on, but you need nice clothes inbetween! maybe just buy a few really nice things that co-ordinate, and jazz up with accesories like the others have said
