Where's my arse gone? Is there such a syndrome as 'post-partum bum loss'?

Before getting pregnant with my son, I had quite a sizeable yet shapely bot, sticking out a bit, causing a certain amount of trouble in finding trousers big enough for the arse that still fitted in the waist. Everything was rather larger than ideal, but I'm in my 40s, and a realist.

Now, eight months post-partum, my arse is seriously flat. I've lost weight, but mainly from the buttocks, it seems. A friend calls it 'M&S jeans bum', and reckons it happens to lots of women after having a baby.

Lord. Say it isn't so. Can it be true?

Walking with the pushchair

crumpette · 13/03/2010 17:31

my bum's mysteriously flattened, it's not exactly sexy I have to say. It's an OK shape, just, er, flat [grumpy]

YanknCock · 13/03/2010 17:33

No loss there, I bloody well wish.

herbaceous · 13/03/2010 17:33

No Barry! I'm not smugly saying 'oops, I've lost weight, look at my tiny arse'. It's just as wide, and the saddlebag thighs are still there, nicely complemented by the caesarian overhang. I'd rather have my old arse back.

And I'm no skinny minny. Size 14 trousers are only sometimes small enough...

Would you like mine???

bellissima · 13/03/2010 18:27

Well it certainly didn't happen to me - caesarian tummy, fatter upper arms, stuffing knocked out of boobs...and same fat bum. A winner all round.

Now I'm older I'm just waiting for the dreaded 'shrivel bum'.

poguemahone · 13/03/2010 18:29

I lost mine postpartum too. If anyone finds it, I want it back to balance out my hips.

KristinaM · 13/03/2010 18:43

if you look down you will find it is now on your tummy

MegBusset · 13/03/2010 22:44

Mine has all shifted around too, I now have a skinny bum and legs (for the first time ever) but also a lovely muffin top. On the plus side I can now wear skinny jeans, just as long as I don't sit down in them...

brimfull · 13/03/2010 22:46

tis an age thing
we lose fat from lower part of arse as we get older
saggy arse sydrome

brimfull · 13/03/2010 22:52

[[Estrogen causes fat to be stored in the buttocks, thighs, and hips in women.[17][18] When women reach menopause and the oestrogen produced by ovaries declines, fat migrates from their buttocks, hips and thighs to their waists;[19] later fat is stored in the belly.[20] Thus females generally have relatively narrow waists and large buttocks,[21] and this along with wide hips make for a wider hip section and a lower waist-hip ratio compared to men.
O well amybe you are a bit young ]]

post above is spot-on.

You can make it better with exercise; I have been doing lunges and squats for about 2 years now and find I have a much rounder bottom, instead of a flat one. It's not as round as I'd like- never had a round bum- but is def. better and I am 50+.

Try 3 sets of 8 squats 3-4 times a week.

bellissima · 14/03/2010 11:17

Yep ggirl is right - saggy arse syndrome - otherwise known as shrivel bum. When you have definitely got to stop wearing jeans.

Not quite there yet....

TulipsInTheRain · 14/03/2010 11:21

I have 'post partum arse sag' but it's all still there, just lower than before

You know that pencil test for boobs? my arse fails that
