make up counter - tricks of the trade or real beauty advice?

Here are some of the things I've been sucked in by at various make up counters:
I need 3 slightly different nude eyeshadow shades, 2 won't get the right effect.
I need 2 eyeliners, a liquid and a powder.
I need a special liquid to turn my eye shadow in to eye liner.
I need a smoother or serum aswell as my moisturiser.
... and so it goes on.

Does anyone/has anyone her worked on a make up counter? Which are the tricks of the trade? What honestly is a good buy?

ah now i think a ££££ mascara os vital

teh dior one has a HUGE brush
all others seem "austerity styel"

brimfull · 14/03/2010 17:15

see i bought that dior one last week becasue of the brush
I find it a bit goopy though
like i need to remove half of it from the brush before applying

brimfull · 14/03/2010 17:17

i also bought dior skinflash primer
on a whim

I really rate AVON mascara, huge brush vey falsies look

I've never got on with £££ ones

My waterproof top coat seals the deal

brimfull · 14/03/2010 17:20

dior brush is much bigger than that one cyb

my brush is bigger than yours

cyb · 14/03/2010 17:20

yes but mine was £8 ,who's the bigger plonker

cocolepew · 14/03/2010 17:25

You can get a cheapie version of the benetint in Superdrug, it's by Pussycat(??) and is pennies.

Maybelline Falsies mascara is good, always use a volume and a lengthening one together [flutter]

With the highbeam you can mix it with the benetint for more of a pink tint on your cheeks. Benefit used to do a bronze version of benetint called glamazon which you could also mix the highbeam with for a golden touch on your cheekbones.

Don't be afraid to experiment with it - one benefit girl once mixed it with rebel foundation which looked good, but you need to be careful otherwise you look too shimmery!

The bentint is great too but if using it on your cheeks make sure to blend in straight away.

I love using a serum - it feels like moisturiser and foundation go on better when I use it. I've been using avon's reversalist stuff for about a month and my skin is fab. Also love their glimmerstick eye liner, lip glosses and eyeshadows. Barry M powders are good as sparkly eyeliners with a bit of spit.

I'm still waiting to find a perfect mascara...

You can get away with a cheaper blusher but have treated myself to benefit's sugarbomb and I love it!
