The time has come. I've normally stuck to tinted moisturiser (cos I found foundation too drying) but my pores are now too big and I need some coverage.I'm 45 with sensitive combination skin. Your recommendations to cover those pores please. Is mineral make up any good?

I have just bought lancome adaptive. I have only used it for a few days but I really like it. It's for combination skin.

Thanks I'll try the Avon first as sounds cheaper. Anyone any advice on mineral make up?

I have large pores. I use Dr Brandt pores no more pore refiner with Chanel prolumiere over the top.

I am trying a few different exfoliators at the moment, but haven't found one I'm happy with.

I was a the shops today thinking I needed to start a thread like this.
What would you recommend for reddish skin tone, combination/mildly sensitive, wrinkle free?
Sorry for hijacking your thread too.

Suggestions that work for me (48 years old, VERY sensitive sun damaged skin, few broken veins that need covering up on cheeks, open pores on nose, some wrinkles):

Dermalogica Treatment foundation is great, in fact after being tempted by Bobbi Brown Luminous foundation last weekend thinking this would provide more hydration and better cover for my thread veins, I have ended up replacing my empty Dermalogica foundation tube!
Bobbi Brown is Ok and it IS luminous and hydrating (the beauty counter girl at J.Lewis found a good colour match) BUT it does sink into open pores on nose which is NOT a good look/maybe I should use a brush to apply but that's too much hassle. Dermalogica is great for sensitive skin, you can slide it on with your fingers, provides good even cover and does NOT highlight open pores. SPF15. £26 retail.

Did wonder about mineral foundation and researched the bareMinerals which some people swear by...but I can't be bothered with all those brushes, and worry about powders highlighting wrinkles...

One of my friends swears by Clarins primer as excellent for minimising open pores...it is on my hit list next. That is, once wallet recovers from recent beauty counter purchases ...I have started using Liz Earle products too as they seem to contain mainly natural ingredients and smell delicious and so far working wonders on my sensitive (ageing) skin.

BTW just looking at the Dermalogica Treatment Foundation tube, it says "oil free, antioxidant vitamins, humectants (to hydrate) and natural non sensiting pigments to stop irritating skin. SPF15. Fragrance free". The only thing is you need to go to a Dermalogica salon and try on the different colours to find a good match.

On the exfoliating front I can recommend (again! honest I do not work for them!) Dermalogica daily microfoliant which is like a white powder and you mix it with a little water and apply on your face everyday in the shower instead of face wash. It is not grainy or harsh so really gentle on sensitive skin and a bit pricey but lasts for months!

Have also started taking make up off at night with Liz Earle's cleanse & polish method (J.Lewis does starter kit for £13) and it is BRILLIANT!! The cloths you use to take the cream off also exfoliate skin and I am amazed at how well it takes off makeup. Skin is looking soothed and not at all angry although I am gentle with the face cloth and water not too hot.

Cheers and wait to hear on how you find Origins.

jafina · 13/03/2010 18:20

Oh yes, I second the microfoliant by Dermalogica, it is amazing and you can use it every day.

My personal favourite foundation is Laura Mercier. I use the oil free version for my 39 yo sensitive combination skin!! It is pretty expensive but a little goes a long way, they recommend using sponges rather than a brush and I prefer that myself.

I was also wondering about the Origins foundation, shall wait and see what others think before I buy.......
