Not sure if I've put this under the right topic so hedging my bets and putting it in the self employed bit too.

Anybody with experience/advice on renting rooms in either hair salon, beauty lounge, spa or fitness centre.....for beauty treatment.

I've been mobile for the past few months but would love to be land based.......

Hi wheelycote, I've done this in the past...not sure what type of advice you're looking for though...can you be more specific?

I would avoid a hairdressers, a brilliant lady locally has a room in the hairdressers, she is wonderful but I won't be going back because I cannot relax whilst the hair driers are being used.
It's supposed to be all whale music and scented candles not perm solution and the phone ringing.

Hi wheely - when I was in the UK I rented a room in a Therapy Centre to do massage etc. The beauty therapist there rented a room full time, as she had a lot of products that she didn't want to have to move around all the time and she had a lock on the door for security. This made her rental costs quite high of course but she worked most days as well and seemed to do pretty well out of it.

If you don't have lots of products etc. on display then you can rent a room on an hourly basis from most therapy centres; try if you are newly starting out to pay a percentage of your income rather than a fixed hourly rate, that way if you don't get many clients you won't be paying rent when you're not using the room, iyswim. As you build up your clientele, it's often better to go to a fixed hourly rate.

I would avoid hairdressers as well - spas or therapy centres or even leisure centres that have spa facilities.

Good luck!
