I am thinking of buying a leather jacket but is it a waste of money?

I like this one from oasis and have tried it on (is very nice) but at that kind of money for a fashion item is it just a stupid buy?

here

I am hoping you'll all say 'no it's great! Buy it! Will last you for YEARS!' and if you all do I shall go this morning and get it!

hmm
i had one once and felt a nob in it. ( plus ca change)
i htink a more classic style would be better - biker for eg

SuSylvester · 11/03/2010 08:04

get these for a ncie coordinated look

cocolepew · 11/03/2010 08:08

It would look stupid in the day, and I love leather jackets (have 7).

Jewelsandgems · 11/03/2010 08:11

coco it goes quite well with my daytime style (dresses, leggings) so I do really like it as a daytime look. But I am more worried that next year I will pull it out of the wardrobe and be like 'what was I thinking!'

susylvester OMG leather shorts! think I'll leave those for the teenagers to wear!

Hmmm the idea of a leather jacket is a good one but that jacket? No.

In my opinion it will date very quickly and as coco says it would look a bit daft worn in the day.

cocolepew · 11/03/2010 08:13

Well buy it then, you're on the slippery slopreto shoulder pads and embroidery on leather coats soon, mark my words.

Or lederhosen.

cocolepew · 11/03/2010 08:15

slope to

Jewelsandgems · 11/03/2010 08:17

Hhmmm well you guys have given my lots to think about.

I am looking for a leather jacket that is really fitted and NOT boxy (as they so often are and I hate the boxy ones) but I have not seen any lovely fitted ones (that I can afford)

I am open to suggestions for lovely fitted leather jackets under £150!!

This is what I would get if I was going to spend that much
here

Actually if that one was going to last for years then maybe this one is a better option?

This one? Looks lovely in the catwalk video

a wee bit over budget but a more wearable version of your original

I love this one but it might be too bikery for most

And finally....I know it's over budget but if you have a birthday/understanding fella

look.....at.....it!

Jewelsandgems · 11/03/2010 09:47

Bunny love that debenhams one (out of stock!) and well the All Saints one is totallt gorgeous. The only reason I have gone for single breasted is I will like to have it open, and (to me) double breasted jackets left open don't look good at all.

I quite like it OP, and the similar (rocha?) one.

Why wouldn´t it work in the day?
It´s hardly evening wear is it-it´s a leather jacket!

I loathe biker jackets.

stickylittlefingers · 11/03/2010 13:34

I don't see the problem with the jacket OP - is quite a specific style, so more memorable than a classic one I suppose - but I think it's nice. Like the sort of floating/yet it's leather and therefore "hard" combo!

I have a classic one that I wear a lot and is comfy and hardwearing and altogether a good buy. I got it from a little specialist shop in Newcastle and it was £80 I think, and per wear worked out v cheap! Do you have a little shop near you? (Another adv of such places is that he took the sleeves up for me (short-armed freak that I am) for free, which I'm guessing wouldn't have happened in a department store.)

I say gofrit!

MissWooWoo · 11/03/2010 14:09

I think it looks lovely, very feminine and waterfall effect is tres chic.

why not?

Jewelsandgems · 12/03/2010 07:49

Thanks girls I think it is lovely too.

I did have a quick scout around looking for something else with more longevity and only found something from Diesel at £350 and something else from some unknown name at £375 (both were beautiful though)

I think I will go and try on the jacket again and - if it's as good as I remember it - I will get it.

Bought it and it is divine

Very much a daywear item, or would look great for an evening out too.

It is so soft and buttery, and the jacket is nearly feather light and it kind of really 'hugs'.

Have I told DH the price yet? Erm.....no.

Good for you OP

poshsinglemum · 12/03/2010 19:10

i think it's georeous! wore my biker out last night. love it!

aarghhelp · 14/03/2010 17:50

Just to say, looked at Times Mouret spread here slide 5. They show a leather jacket with not dissimilar lapels as "the lapels" of AW10.

Jewelsandgems · 14/03/2010 18:01

aarghhelp thankyou and yay!
