DP and I have finally decided to get married, but have agreed that it will be just the two of us. He generally wears jeans and T-shirts and isn't big on dressing up very smart (linen grandad shirt and chinos as about as good as it gets!). I would like to look nice, but don't want to be overdressed in comparison iyswim. What would you suggest? Am a size 16-18 at the moment, but planning on losing a stone if poss before then. Thanks!

I think that dress is lovely actually. If you prefer something a bit less wedding-y then that dress works well.

Not sure about the cardi but can't figure out why. Will have a think. And I'm sure some more stylish people will be along soon to help out!

thanks NC. I'm not sure about the cardy either, but a jacket seems a bit too formal for me.

Well, I ordered the dress, which is lovely and fits perfectly - except it's too long! I've never had that problem as I'm a reasonably tall 5'7". Such a shame. anyone, another change of mind means now I'm looking at long black linen dresses (thought a large silver brooch and silvery scarf might be good to brighten it).

What does anyone think to a) getting married in black (although it's what I wear most of the time) and b) the sort of style I've described?

I haven't seen anything yet, but I do have a silky full-length Monsoon dress which is the sort of thing, but only in a more day-timey fabric (like linen).

As the wedding is secret I can't get help from any of my friends in RL so would really, really appreciate any thoughts on this. Thanks to everyone who's been helping so far!

Get lovely Wallis dress taken up. Should be pretty easy to find somewhere to do it for about a tenner. Don't wear black.
