Need hair product advice, please!

I've just had my shoulder length bob chopped into my neck, longer at the front with a side fringe and lots of layers. I wanted a style that I could just wash and straighten in the mornings but wanted to wear it 'messy' as well for nights out etc. (for anyone who watches Scrubs, a bit like Elliots when she had her makeover!)

I need to find some sort of hair product that will give it a bit of volume and help it to stay put as well, without weighing it down too much. My hair is very thick and heavy, although the layers have thinned it out a lot.

Any ideas? Mousse? Wax, gel hairspray?? Argh! I don't use any product at all apart from a bit of leave in conditioner sometimes!

Thanks

I use toni&guys boost it mousse for volume at the roots if that is what you are after.
Then I use a paste or styling spray to get rid of the fluffy ends.
Not sure what Elliots hair is like though.

Thanks very much, wiifat (love the name!)

Will look in Boots tomorrow for the T&G mousse. Do you put it on wet hair before you blow dry?

I thought I might go for a wax type product for the ends, I want to sort of clump sections together so they look separated and spiky if you know what I mean? It sounds horrendous when I write it down! I have some serum here as well so might try with that first.
