Tartan? Jeans? Skirt? Dress? Any tips?

a bag on my head

TheFirstLady · 09/03/2010 15:36

An air of quiet desperation?

TheFirstLady · 09/03/2010 15:37

Some suitable outfits here

SummerToad · 09/03/2010 17:04

i've always wanted to know, how do you say ceilidh?

hf128219 · 09/03/2010 17:06

It's a 'Kayleigh'

SuSylvester · 09/03/2010 17:51

..is it too late to say im sorry

emsyj · 09/03/2010 18:23

Flat, comfortable shoes with good toe coverage for when your partner stands on you.

Something that you don't mind getting sweaty and/or having drinks spilled on.

Can't imagine the clientele at a ceilidh will be terribly fashion-conscious tbh. They used to do ceilidhs at my college when I was at uni and everyone wore tartan, but the ceilidhs I've been to since haven't had a dress code as such.

I love ceilidhs.

claricebeansmum · 09/03/2010 18:26

A Tenalady.

There is a lot of skipping and jumping about. If you have a pelvic flaw there might be leakage!!!

bethjeff · 09/03/2010 20:33

dress

very chic.... but prob not suitable if you have too many drams!

Pinkmarshmallow · 09/03/2010 20:34

I've been to a few.... you can get away with anything. You do get VERY sweaty though.

vesela · 10/03/2010 09:32

any dress or skirt that you can dance in, basically. Flared knee-lengthish i.e. something vaguely twirly is good. Low or mid-heel shoes with some sort of strap/bar so they stay on better. Nothing too hot.

Sid · 10/03/2010 09:37

Such useful suggestions and wit! I think the best advice is that it'll be hot. Love the Warehouse dress, but think I won't be able to even drink in it, let alone kick my legs or whatever I'm going to have to do.

ceilidhs are fab

unless your school is very posh or its in a posh venue it won't be very dressed up

agree something smart casual and comfortable, esp shoes

warehouse dress no good at all for this occasion IMHO

is in in Scotland ie will people be dancing properly? if so, i also advise long sleeves to minimise bruising to arms

Bettymum · 10/03/2010 15:44

Agree with long sleeves, I had permanently bruised upper arms as a student from ceilidhing every Saturday night.
You will get very very hot, wear comfy shoes and a skirt that you can swish about in.
And yell "eeeee-yooooh!" every now and again.

Pinkmarshmallow · 10/03/2010 16:38

wrt shoes.... on some occassions we all ended up taking our shoes off! Eeeek! This was cos most were wearing heels which were unsuitable. Anyway, be sure and have "loadsa craic!"
