Haircuts for little boys?

I have an appointment booked for DS to have his hair cut tomorrow. He is 17 months and has not had it cut before - he has always had quite a lot of hair, from birth, though. (Some pics on profile, but no really up to date ones as my card reader is broken)

I don't have any brothers and don't know anything about boys' hairstyles etc, so what should I be asking them to do? It is a children's hairdresser's as he is so wriggly and I thought they might have more practice with wriggly children than a normal barber or hairdresser.

It would also be nice to have a few ideas of different cuts etc - do you even get different cuts for such small boys? His hair is fine, wavy and about 2 inches long at the moment. It looks nice long, but I am torn, because he hates having it washed and being longer means it takes more rinsing, so it would probably be better for him to have it shorter for now.
