I have developed a shoe dilema ...

SweetCecily · 07/03/2010 12:07

as in I seem to have lost my way with what to wear for everyday.

Ballet flats are what I live in but I am going through them at a rate of knots and DH thinks we ought to have shares in French Sole!

I find Converse not good on damp days and they dont always quite go with my style... which is quite Boden-esque

Ive decided I need a sturdier leather shoe in brown to wear with jeans but I cant find one that is

a) non granny in styling
b) not too booty and chunky
c) non lace up

Help - is there such a shoe?

Im 33 if that helps, I work from home and have a busy, active, lifestyle chasing children, and animals all day!

I'm not sure it exists!! Am having exactly the same problem as you and not really sure what to do about it!
Will watch with interest...

ilovegreenbeans · 07/03/2010 12:18

Oh, and I had some similar to the clarks ones a couple of years ago but had to throw them out as they made me feel too frumpy!

nickschick · 07/03/2010 12:21

clarks do some lovely ballet flats as do asda etc perhaps a cheaper shoe?? or just a different brand might last you longer?

my pink ballet flats from clarks are still going strong after 4 years and they have been done to death.

cookielove · 07/03/2010 12:26

they are brown, not really what u want but sooooo cute

SweetCecily · 07/03/2010 12:35

Thank you bloss but too round in the toe and thinking more a leather sole...

All the styles in at the moment are very round and have a chunky curved sole and Im after something more old fashioned/ traditional.

I do have other brand ballet flats but feel I need a change on some days so would like something different...

watching this I have this problem too.

I want some that cover my foot so I can wear socks though, what used to be called a 'trouser shoe'

cookielove · 07/03/2010 15:31

PoppityPing, any of my suggestions rught, or am i way off?

PoppityMoppityandCottontail · 07/03/2010 15:52

sorry cookielove, flat for me- low wedge at the most.

I thought I was looking for similar to the OP, as she wants something sturdier than ballet flatswhich aren't boots or lace ups.

Think it's a bit of a holy grail tbh

cookielove · 07/03/2010 15:56

not my taste but maybe yours

cookielove · 07/03/2010 16:00

casual boot

flat non ballet pump

good for jeans but boot and a heel but only little

this is cute

theminniebobble · 07/03/2010 16:09

Why don't you go for a tods-style loafer? I think that they always look very smart in a continental type way. Tods themselves are very costly but there's normally some good similar ones in TK Maxx or Zara. Russell and Bromley sell them too.

Personally I love the brogues that are around at the moment but they're lace ups.

theminniebobble · 07/03/2010 16:14

Minnetonka moccasins are great too. I live in mine. So so comfortable. They're here.

SirCharlieStinkySocks · 07/03/2010 16:49

I have these and love them to death

tethersend · 07/03/2010 17:36

These are great, very comfy... These look good, they also come in black... Pricey- Any good?

jodevizes · 07/03/2010 18:56

If you are out in the country and there is a Saddlery shop or some other horsey type shop, have a look for some horse riding chelsea style boots. Slip on, fairly flat and will last forever.

SweetCecily · 08/03/2010 18:00

IÂ?m back - sorry cookie you were very helpful but a bit off the mark - much appreciated input tho!

You might be onto something re Tods and the Hobbs are so far nearest to the image in my mind which I rather fear is an amalgamation of different shoes all sort of hotchpotched together...

I have joddy boots already rather knackered though and crusted up with mud so maybe a new pair is in order.

Holy grail methinks it is!

SweetCecily, I have abandoned the quest already and bought some flat ankle boots, pixie boots as we called 'em long ago.....

I am now truely dressed as myself 20 years ago.

SweetCecily · 08/03/2010 21:29

Think I will have to abandon it too Poppity as now I have bought the GAP trousers mentioned in another thread and the only things that go with them are pumps and flip flops - and its ffffreeezing!

Oh well.

there are a few nice pairs being linked to on this thread (and some hideous ones too!)
