Clothes are starting to get tight, still have 33 weeks to go ,do I have to buy maternity clothes yet?

2 main problems

1-jeans are tight and some are impossible, mainly due to the trapped wind but wont last long anyway.

2- coat won't fasten properly around my expanding chest.

I am going to NYC in 4 weeks. I will need a coat and pants that fit. Any suggestions that don't break the bank?

Probably have to be online shopping as we don't have much choice of shops here! New Look is about the only one with maternity clothes!

I was in maternity by about 8 weeks each time. Trousers got too snug and I just wanted to get comfy. It's no fun feeling squeezed into things.

I ended up buying all my maternity clothes from H&M and New Look. Saw me through 2 pregnancies and was all e-bayed for a few £££ when I was finished.

New Look does really great maternity clothes-cheap and hard wearing- and actually alot more flattering than alot of more expensive items that i bought

Well, I splashed out on Isabella Oliver maternity clothes. I bought leggings and a wrap dress and wore them to death. I did manage the sell them on ebay afterwards and did really well out of them. I think the dress went for about £50 (I paid £90 odd) and the leggings for around £15.

Give in.

Be comfortable.

Any suggestions style wise? I don't want to look like I'm in maternity clothes but on the otherhand a coat may have to do me until the end of the year.

I'm a size 16 ish and 5ft so have a tendancy to look dumpy!

As far as the growing bump goes, invest in a bump band. These are big stretchy bits of material - a bit like a giant headband for your waist. They can help you wear normal trousers for longer and also normal tops that are starting to ride up. I had one black and one white. I also wore them later in pregnancy to help support my massive bump.

I really can't recommend them enough. I got mine from Isabella Oliver in a sale but I believe Topshop do quite reasonably priced ones. HTH.

I found wrap around tops and dresses very flattering and grew with me. They're also easy to wear under cardigans if you need an extra layer (even if the cardi won't quite do up!).

I'm no help on coats though - I just wore my DH's

notnowbernard · 06/03/2010 22:15

I am 19w and have been in leggings and dresses/tunic tops since about week 6

Nymphadora · 06/03/2010 22:15

I have seen bump bands in New Look and will be investing in them!

I will probably wear DHs coat for bad weather/outside days(I ahve done all through the snow as I could fit extra jumpers on!) but I need a smartish one for work.It will be probably worn over jeans so not too posh!

Can recommend these maternity jeans for early pg which fits everywhere as usual, apart from its stretchy waistband. DP usually have free P&P.

Also Next black slouch trousers fit well at the early stages, they also have free P&P, code is K5001
