None of my shoes are comfortable

Sigh.
I think I am between sizes or something. Five and a half is too small and sixes often chafe from my heels slipping out the shoe/boot. heel grips seem useless, they just attach themselves to sock and tights and roll themselves up.
Plus my arches ache often now.
I got some arch support things from Boots for £9.99 and they help but is there anything else around that might help.
My shoes are all oldish too. Does that affect the support and how can I keep wearing beloved footwear?
I'm not ready to get expanding old lady shoes yet.

Haven't had clarks for a while. Can't really afford new shoes atm.
Am looking forward to summer as my Birkenstocks are comfortable
