So, my dark ash blonde/light brown hair was going white around my face, so I tried dying it with an at-home kit (semi-permanent), which did nothing other than to give it a very slight pinky-tint (which fortunately washed out after a few times of washing). On DH's sage advice I then went to the hairdresser and asked them to put a semi-permanent colour on, but not to make it any darker than my natural colour, and not to make it at all reddish as that's bad with my too pale-and-blotchy skin tone. And asked if at all possible if they could use a light touch so some of my natural blonde-y highlights show through.
And instead, what I ended up with, is solid coloured, dark brown hair with a slight reddish tint. No highlights left, several shades darker than my natural colour, and the redness does my skin and red eyes no favours at all. I look like I'm about 60 (rather than 40) and it is not nice. What can I do? Best to go back to same hairdresser to try to get them to fix? what if it ends up worse? will it just go redder and redder as it fades? Should I just wash it 20 times in a row and hope that my highlights reappear and are not pink? Any suggestions welcome - feeling quite discouraged and ugly.
