I don't want to do the MN haircut unless I have to!
I am too cheap, too lacking in babysitters and too bored to go to a hairdressers so what shall I do?

Look for a mobile hairdresser in your area? They usually charge one-third what the salon charges and usually don't mind children running around their ankles (at least the good ones don't!)

The only downside is having to sweep up after she's gone. Last time I was finding random strands of hair two weeks later!!

Put a notice on your local Netmums page (betrayal emoticon) and someone will answer with a recommendation.

Thanks for advice but I don't like having my hair cut by other people. I want to cut it myself but want a different style than the MN cut (layered) so I am wanting advice on how to cut something different.

I have been cutting my own hair for years except for one disaterous occassion in Toni & Guy about 18mths ago which I have been recovering from ever since!

Am I right in thinking you are quite crafty? If you have a good eye and are well co-ordinated you should be well able for it, hairdressing is not rocket science despite what they'd like you to think.

I used to cut in layers with a scissors, but recentlty started using a razor, just a regular disposable one which give a really nice result.

At the moment I am sporting an Alexa Chung do with a side swept fringe, which gets lots of compliments. The key for me is to study, and I mean really study, sometimes with a magnifying glass magazine photos of what you want. Have you any idea of the style you want? Then I'll try to describe how I'd do it!

Have you seen this thread, Jack?

JackBauer · 03/03/2010 22:56

thanks tethers, am in wales so not really practical though

verity, I don't know what I want, no fringe or not short. nothing that needs too much effort in teh mornings as I don't normally bother much with my hair.

I like alexa chungs hair though.

I'll be honest, DH is very anti fringes but I'd quite like one again.....
I have had lots of different hairstyles from 1 inch all over to super long and fringed bob.
