serum or cream

Can anyone tell me what is the difference? Have decided it's about time I started looking after my skin properly - maybe too late, but there you go. Looking at the RoC range atm but not sure when to use a cream or when to use a serum or whether to use both...

ANyone used RoC or Olay Regenerist? Can't decide which to go with.

I personally never use a serum without a cream too but do use a cream on its own. I find serums, although making skin silky, don't really moisturise enough.

I use both, for the reasons Dirtgirl gave. Serums don't moisturise, they polish and finish. (or something....)

I've used the Olay Regenerist, got some last year when I had a voucher. Not worth it IMO. No better than any other generic anti-aging, wouldn't buy it again at that price.

Used Roc years ago, but can't remember which.

I think you use both.

Serum for magical wrinkle erasing properties, cream for moisturising.

So you can use a cream without a serum, but not generally use a serum without a cream.

Mind you I don't bother with serums because I think their claims are a load of old rot. Best thing you can do for you skin is to wear at least factor 30 sunblock (with 5 star UVA rating) on your face and chest every day.

okay, got some advice from RoC. They say that their serum can be used under any moisturiser, if for example you want to combine their 'complete lift' product with another product with high SPF - or at least that's how I interpret it...

If you look on the internet there are just so many products to choose from but at the end of the day I guess it boils down to what you can find in the shops, and what you're prepared to pay.

I like the look of the Clinique SPF 25 moisturiser. There is a high SPF in the RoC range but it doesn't appear to be in the shops so I'm unlikely to buy it.

I use serum and moisturiser. Protect and perfect - the boots one. My skin looks better than it has for years. I stopped using it for a while just so see if it was the cream / serum making the difference and there was a definate difference in my skin, and not for the better so I have started using it again!
