Can anybody find me - pregnancy bump disguising workwear

crumpetsolo · 02/03/2010 19:30

Short story - I'm starting a new job in a few weeks at 8 weeks pregnant, don't really want them to find out sooner than I would have to tell them. It's my second baby so worried about showing earlier - I think I showed at about 14 weeks last time.

So, I've thought of wrap cardigans, structured shirts, any other cunning but stylish ideas..

Thanks in advance

I actually found just wearing a tailored jacket made a big difference as it skimmed over the bump, I adapted my normal suit jackets to do up with ribbons instead of buttons and they disguised the bump well for a long time. The best style I found were the ones that do up with one button under the bust (e.g. [[http://www.jigsaw-online.com/fashion/1000872/J10139/womens/coats-and-jackets/jackets/herringbone-l inen-jacket this Jigsaw one]

Suit jacket worn open - that way your side profile consists of a flapping jacket.

PCPlumIsMyHomeboy · 02/03/2010 20:28

Layers def a good idea. Long tees, shorter cardi/jumper, long/chunky cardi over the top instead of a jacket. And perhaps some distracting headwear?

crumpetsolo · 02/03/2010 20:34

Distracting headwear? Like this ?

Perfect.

chandellina · 02/03/2010 21:12

a stylish long scarf will totally hide the bump.

PMSL @ crumpetsolo

I was going to suggest the open suit jacket. Worked for me.

crumpetsolo · 02/03/2010 21:42

I hadn't thought of open suit jacket - that is probably pretty effective! Thanks all - I was also thinking of an empire line work dress but can't find anything

anything empireline magnifys the tum ime

monkeysmama · 02/03/2010 23:30

The tops/blouses etc with elasticated waists are good as they skim the belly. Do you know the style I mean?

wickedfairy · 03/03/2010 11:37

I am now 20 weeks with my second and although I have an obvious bump, no-one at work has noticed yet!!

I have been wearing a long cardigan (opened) with a long scarf around my neck, with the longer bits hanging in front of my bump.

I am amazed I've got away with it for so long, tbh.

Scarves all the way!!!!!

roary · 03/03/2010 11:58

Step away from any maternity gear or clothes that look like maternity, incl floaty empire lines. The second you wear them you will look pg no matter how small you are. If you have to get some cheap reg skirts or trousers a size up. Agree with jackets worn open over long tops!

crumpetsolo · 03/03/2010 15:49

Scarves it is then. Thanks very much ladies!

Hi crumpetsolo

Right, I went back to work at around 8 weeks pregnant last year and managed to hide it for aaaages. (2nd pregnancy too)

Before I had a bump I wore M&S magic tights in a large size (just for a few weeks though, didn't think was healthy past that!)

Further on in my pregnancy:

wrap cardigans
trousers
shirts with a jumper over the top
silk blouses that don't button up, just pull them on- the shape and fabric hides everything

by far the most concealing clothing was a larger sized fitted shirt in a reasonably long length with a knitted tank top over the top in black or a dark colour, it conceals the bump brilliantly, adds some undefinable (?) bulk and somehow makes you look very slim even with a bump

crumpette · 03/03/2010 17:29

btw I apparently only started to look pregnant, to my colleagues, when I was well over 6 months pregnant.

Aso avoid lycra stretch tops like the plague, and go for longer lengths in everything. I got the tank tops for wearing over shirts from Gap

crumpette · 03/03/2010 17:32

7 months I mean

like your name btw

crumpetsolo · 03/03/2010 17:50

Tank tops - genius! Thank you - Your name's pretty snazzy too I'll have to have a rethink as most of my work tops are stretchy type things, but at least it's an excuse to go shopping.
