Can't wait to see if it gets rid of the red so I can go blonde

ooh that looks interesting - I've been dying mine black for years, but the grey roots are now so horrendous I'm tempted to go for a medium ash brown which will hopefully be better for rootage control.

The reviews look good. Let us know how you get on!

I will, I'm roping in a friend to assign blame to help me

Did you buy it online or in RL? Local boots is very small and cramped, I might venture into town for this.

Well I did it this morning - the results are, er, interesting!

Before I describe it, I should say that my hair is naturally very dark brown, with probably about 40% grey. It's in a shortish bob.

I have been using black or dark brown semi-permanents for years (the 24 washes type, like eg Movida). No permanents. I try to just do the roots each time, but the ends definitely have a build up of black on them as they are (or rather were), jet black.

So - it is now a very complex mixture of shades. The first two inches of the roots are a lot lighter than the ends, so I think it would take more than one application of even the high strength one to get rid of the build up of colour at the ends (the packet does say this).

The 'new' colour ranges from a light reddish brown at the roots through to a dark mahogany brown at the ends.

I KNOW that reddish brown isn't my natural colour, but I think what has happened is that that grey hair was too permanently stained for the stuff to effectively strip all the black off, so it is now this reddish-brown colour (the packet does say that it might not work on grey hair).

However, although I'll probably have to stick an ash colour on top to tone down the ginger, I'm generally fairly pleased that the black has mostly gone, so I've got something to work with.

I think the results for different people will vary a LOT depending on what type of dyes you have used before and how dark they were. Also how much grey you have.

Ooh well done you!

Havnt managed to do it this week on account of being stony broke and probably needing 2 packs. Which colour do you want to end up?

I don't know what colour I want really! As long as the basic tone is flattering (nothing reddish or yellowish) I'm not too fussed.

What I don't want is the Audrey Roberts look (strands of bleached bits over what is basically dark hair with grey in it).

I might try a light ash brown semi over the whole lot - that should still allow for shades of light and dark so not look too flat.

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 06/03/2010 14:57

Meant to say good luck when you do try it - what look are you aiming for?

CiderIUpAndSetIFree · 06/03/2010 15:08

Couldn't resist finding some pics of Audrey to illustrate:

Don't want this

or this

and definitely not this

Though Sue Nicholls herself is a very good looking woman, imo.

LMAO!!!!!

I dyed my hair for the first time in october and it was 50/50 red or blonde. I went red.

Ofcourse now I am thinking blonde will look better especially with summer etc and dont want to be orange!

What's your natural colour - did you have to bleach it at all to get it to go red?
