Advice on up to date nail colour shades

I am still wearing my 'Rouge Noir' as I just can't seem to wear black.

I have seen some nice taupe colours about - has anyone tried them - what do they look like on?

Does anyone have tips on other good shades to try - something a little bit 'directional'?

yeah, I believe "greige" is the correct term for the taupe shade you are referring to - according to grazia anyway!! I have bought an OPI one in that colour but not sure about it. I think matt pastel shades are in too - lilacs, pinks, greens, blues and yellows.

Taupe shades make my hands look grubby. I don't follow trends and only ever wear Rouge Noir on short nails and toes or a French Manicure. I agree with someone in the Times saying that new Chanel colour would make you look like you were dead. It's hideous.

Is the Chanel colour 'particuliere'? I rememer thinking the name made me think of 'peculiar'!

Howeve, this doesn't look too bad...? (The bblurb claims it is flatteing. Can blurb be believed though? )

I've bought yellow and orange ready for the summer

expatinscotland · 28/02/2010 16:40

lilac is supposed to be what's in for the spring.

The chanel one makes me look as if I have caught all my nails in a door and bruised them, not such a good look really. I have very pale skin.

My very favourite nail varnishes are a dark red called Vixen by revlon, and for summer, I love Whimsy by barbara daly at tesco, it a really pretty mauvey pink. I bulk buy it in case it's discontunued. Mavala have a similar shade, but the bottle is tiny and it's twice the price

My go to colour for the last couple of years has been Cherries in the Snow from Revlon, it's a pinky red colour. I am not keen on the greige look, I think if you are pale it looks like you have bad circulation. I think I might try navy this year.

I love 505, but I have dark skin. mink muffs by Essie is really nice and would suit fairer skin.
