Can I have a fringe with frizzy hair?

I'm desperate to have a fringe. However, my hair has a slight curl and goes frizzy easily - last time I had a fringe it was a disaster (but I was pg at the time so hair was MUCH curlier).

Could I use straighteners just on a fringe - if so, what brand? Or is there some other magic product that would save me from frizzy fringe syndrome (not helped by the damp climate of where I live).

I have curly hair which i hate and goes abit fizzy in rain etc but ive been using ghds for years now but i have a fringe, i have done for years.
I use a label m smoothing balm and ghds.
Go for it, you can always grow it out.

Keep fringe long and quite heavy (don't let them 'thin in out' / 'feather' it) - I have frizz prone hair and my fringe (when wet) comes down to my nostrils.

Hi my sister has a fringe and curly/frizzy hair. She keeps it long enough so can put it up/back if necessary & straightens it with ghd's if leaving it down. So yes but watch you dont get it too short, and buy some clips so you can put it up out of the way if you need to!

Thank you all - good advice MrsSeanBean & ohnelly about keeping it long and not feathered - I think that's where I went wrong last time.

Crispycake - label m smoothing balm - is this gen available ie could I get it from Boots?

travellerintime - its a toni and guy product think only availible from their salons and on the net.
Im sure you can find other brands ie a john frieda anti frizz one from boots. lee stafford also has prroducts like this, hes availible in boots too.

Traveller, I think Label M is available in Essensuals (Toni & Guy) salons, unsure if it is available in Boots.

I had one when I was so fed up with my hair after I gave birth. I also thought it would help cover the grey hairs at my temples.

Crazily I did this living in SE Asia where any straight style on me lasted about 3 seconds.

I found it easier to straighten with a hairdryer than with GHDs, to be honest as the hairdryer gave it movement and shine rather than just spapping it straight, like a wig can look.

I lasted about 8 months with it. It drove me crazy and I gave up and took up the Curly Girl method, which is great even for my curly/wavy fine hair.

Travellerintime · 28/02/2010 17:48

Doris, maybe it won't work, but I think it's just something I need to get out my system... approaching 40 I need something new!

What's the Curly Girl method...

You could try it, and I liked it but it was too labour intensive and also I think my hair isn't heavy enough, so that even though I had it nice and straight, it didn't swing nicely.

So I went the other way, only washing with conditioner after stripping off the gunk with a sodium laureth shampoo and using non-silicone, non-paraben products, to encourage the curl back and get decent clumped curls.

Here's the method in full, there's a forum with all the right UK products here

www.britishcurlies.co.uk/

I should have done this sooner. Very mum- friendly as it involves no lengthy styling.

Travellerintime · 28/02/2010 20:23

Thanks for that Doris. It's nice to know there's a bit of curl power out there. It always infuriates me that hairdressers assume I want my hair ironed straight & never seem to know how to treat slightly curly hair. If my fringe doesn't work then I may embrace my inner curl.
