Full bush, bald or trimmed???

RoRoMummy · 26/02/2010 14:44

As Spring is around the corner I have started to turn my attention to shedding the hairy 'Winter coat'. Generally my legs and armpits are shaved/waxed. But the question is this:

Pubes / Minge: Full bush, bald or trimmed???

Have realised that quite a few of my friends have it 'all off', whereas I have an occasional 'topiary' trim. What do fellow Mumsnet ladies do? What is the best method?

Just curious.

My husband couldn't give a monkeys.

Aw bunjies that's sweet that you and your DH have such a great level of intimacy...and trust.. to let him near your ladybits with a razor

I go for the landing strip effect when I can be bothered. I usually text DP at work to tell him and it drives him mad with lust till he gets home .

But inevitably I cannae be arsed to maintain it so it grows back into Grey Gardens (Yes I have grey pubes. And I'm not even 30 ).

Only a few mind. That last sentence made it sound like I had this going on down there.

bunny what happened to your legs in that picture on your profile! ob something window related

BunnyLebowski · 26/02/2010 19:16

We came back from a BBQ in the summer and realised we'd 'lost' our keys.

I decided to get into the house through the tiny bathroom window.

My lovely childbearing hips, so useful during childbirth, resulted in me stuck in said window facing downwards at a 45 degree angle.

I was wearing a dress so flashed my knickers to all the neighbours and the firemen that eventually came to rescue me whereupon I promptly lost consciousness and whacked me head on a concrete step.

BunnyLebowski · 26/02/2010 19:17

Oh and the keys were in the back of the taxi all along.

Jesus wept.

fluffles · 26/02/2010 19:18

southeastastra · 26/02/2010 19:19

There are other lines of help available

Alouiseg · 27/02/2010 14:05

Hot waxed off all year round. I do it myself, far less embarrassing.

overmydeadbody · 27/02/2010 14:08

ouch bunny, your legs!

RoRoMummy · 02/03/2010 13:09

Thank you for this: I must only have 'baldie' friends then!!! The 'little girl' thing bothers me too.

Have now bought some clippers and have decided to just trim as usual and make a nice little triangle shape. Can't bear it poking out of swimsuits or nice undies.

Incidentally: Boden usually do a 'boyleg' swimsuit which is cut deeper round the leg. Looks 50's-ish (I have a red & white polka dot one) or short style tankini bottoms. So if I've let it get out of hand ever it's OK to go swimming still.

Ta for all your responses!

Bikini trimmer very good - number 1 all over.
Do it for hygiene purposes, not for dh. Think it's the younger generation that favour the 'all off' look. So my teenage daughter tells me...........

MoChan · 02/03/2010 13:33

They favour the all-off look because the media is telling them that they need to look like porn stars. It makes me mad. There's a reason that hair is there. I don't mind trimming and tidying (which I do myself), however.

purplepeony · 02/03/2010 13:48

tiny trim as and when. Hate to look bald.

Goober · 02/03/2010 13:51

Number 2 all over.
Much cleaner.

purplepeony · 02/03/2010 13:58

But surely anything other than a trim is very very prickly?
I just think what my armpits and legs are like as it grows back

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 02/03/2010 14:02

Trim, and salon wax at the sides.

2old4thislark · 02/03/2010 14:09

Shaved it all off ONCE.....and once only. Boy did it itch when it grew back!

EggyAllenPoe · 02/03/2010 14:15

what is wrong with au naturel?

says me, that hasn't been swimming in a pool for several years...(at the beach no one else is close enough for it to matter)

gramercy · 02/03/2010 14:26

But unless you are constantly shaving, it will be stubbly all the time.

And what about the, er, nether regions? How can you manage to reach round there?

aquavit · 02/03/2010 14:32

I am not v hairy so didn't used to bother at all. But (sorry for unpleasant detail) post-childbirth couldn't use tampax so it all got a bit, erm, messy, and I discovered the brilliance that is the bikini trimmer.

There IS a generational difference isn't there - I was a bit wound up by it for ages because it did seem like younger women got rid of it all in some kind of imitation of the porn look. But then I remembered that my mother refused to shave her legs on feminist grounds, whereas I did mine from teenagedom onwards. So perhaps I can't be arsed to get all worked up about it: each to their own.

(Bald is still a look that I find vile, though.)

BrassicaBabe · 02/03/2010 16:53

Shaving is horribly itchy.

Normally have a hot wax brazillian. Ouch! I try to remember to take a couple of paracetamol an hour before my appointment.

rimmer08 · 02/03/2010 18:52

brazillian all year round

Chandon · 03/03/2010 07:58

regular tim, also in winter, for hygiene and freshness really. (same reasons I shave my pits). I wax or pluck the sides so it looks tidy.

I feel very 70s if I let it run wild

Chandon · 03/03/2010 08:00

MoChan, do you also leave you pit hair on then? Be honest? Same thing reall, isn´t it?

And tache hair ? Is there a reason it´s there too???

MoChan · 03/03/2010 13:29

There are reasons pubic hair is there that make it, to my mind, still useful. In my opinion, there's no point in my having a tache (and I don't have one anyway) or underarm hair, so I do shave it off. I admit I am kind of vexed with myself for doing it, in some ways, because men don't shave theirs. But I like the fact that I feel cleaner (as I do when I trim my 'lower' hair - [coy emoticon]).
