Natalie Portman
Patti Smith

Bonsoir · 25/02/2010 11:15

LOL at Fritzi fantasising about the Garance Doré/Scott Schumann lifestyle. Do you look at the on-the-street fashion shots of children on Milk?

SuSylvester · 25/02/2010 11:20

some of htose kids look odd

to say the least

Bonsoir · 25/02/2010 11:31

The second little girl down (in the Deyrolle shop) looks amazing...

SerenityNowakaBleh · 25/02/2010 12:24

The good (echoing a LOT of people on here):

  • Audrey Hepburn
  • Audrey Tautou
  • Natalie Portman (but that may be because she's just naturally stunning)
  • Nicole Richie (5 years ago, I never thought I'd say that)
  • Rachel Bilson
  • The character/stylist of Lily in How I Met
  • Scott Schuman, for being able to find such style in the Sartorialist

The bad

  • WAGs
  • Katy Price
  • Sienna Miller. I actually could not recognise her in amongst other blonde starlets for years. If she committed a heinous crime, and I had to identify her in a line-up ... in all honesty, I would not be able to.
  • Madonna (mad as a box of frogs during a storm - like THIS monstrosity) And, according to a friend who used to go to the same Kabbalah centre as her - she has no taste, whatsoever.
VerityBrulee · 25/02/2010 12:49

oh, I have a style crush on Garance and Scott - she is so European chic, he is so all American

Especially love reading them at the moment, the his and hers take in the shows. Well, a girl's got to dream.

southeastastra · 25/02/2010 12:50

i always wanted to dress like the clash, quite hard when you're a 40 year old woman.

Bonsoir · 25/02/2010 12:54

Ooh I've just been reminded of another one:

Inès Sastre

DP just told me that DD sat next to her at lunch yesterday and got talking .

SerenityNowakaBleh · 25/02/2010 13:12

Actually, Bonsoir, I was thinking of asking you some questions on a thread - do you have suggestions for shops in Paris? (clothes). I'm going in a few weeks and thought of having a look for clothes while there.

Bonsoir · 25/02/2010 13:13

Serenity - I'd be happy to help - will you start a thread? And please tell me a bit about your budget and your style!

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 25/02/2010 13:42

Icons:
Audrey Tautou
Audrey Hepburn (should I change my name to Audrey?)
Betty & Joan from 'Mad Men'
Anna Friel
Kate Hudson
Juliette Binoche

Anti:
That Jordan creature
All the WAGS (Colleen, Alex, whatever)
All the girls who go to Doncaster races in March wearing 2cm squared of luminous satin, nicely accessorised with orange gooseflesh you could grate cheese on and two-tone hair extensions. Classy.

ArcticRoll · 25/02/2010 13:45

Sarah Jessica Parker
Katherine Hepburn
Editor of French Vogue
Kristin Scott Thomas

Anti
Cheryl Cole
Jordan etc

Bonsoir · 25/02/2010 13:46

Why are you all so keen on Carine Roitfeld? I think she is single-handedly resposible for the very aggressive urban girl warrior look. Grrrrrrr!

SerenityNowakaBleh · 25/02/2010 14:07

Thread is here Bonsoir

Fleecy · 25/02/2010 14:08

Good:
Cate Blanchett
Nicole Richie
Julia Restoin Roitfeld
Diane Kruger
Rachel Bilson
Lea Michele (Rachel from Glee) has been looking fab at various red carpet events, especially here - so cute

Bad:
Annalynne McCord
Bai Ling
Mischa Barton
Alice Dellal

GrumpyOldHorsewoman · 25/02/2010 14:09

Anna, those children in your link had some beautiful coats on. I particularly liked the navy peacoat and know I will find it on some French website. Any ideas?

FritziGreenEyes · 25/02/2010 14:11

Bonsoir, thanks for Milk link. Have bookmarked it to get inspiration for putting together outfits for DD.

I agree on Catrin Roitfeld. She always looks so miserable.

Francagoestohollywood · 25/02/2010 14:18

Style Icons
Omar Little from the Wire

Kate Moss when younger
I second Margot Leadbetter
Rachel Bilson

Anti: evil Paris Hilton

Bonsoir · 25/02/2010 14:25

Navy peacoats abound in France, but not at this time of year I don't think. DD had one for school two years ago. If I were looking for one again I would try Petit Bateau/Du Pareil au Même probably. Or just ask someone in the street where they bought the one they were wearing!

Having said that, Boden did a great navy peacoat for little girls in AW08/09.

Fleecy · 25/02/2010 14:29

Grumpyoldhorsewoman - I got a navy peacoat (for DS admittedly, not DD, but looks similar) for £14 in Sainsburys. It's really nice and looks very smart and rather stylish. They might have some in the sale now?

angelene · 25/02/2010 14:30

Good:
PJ Harvey
Cate Blanchett
Alexa Chung
Debbie Harry
Sue Sylvester
Neneh Cherry

Bad:
Identikit WAGs, girl bands, etc etc.

janeite · 25/02/2010 17:57

I have always been a bit in love with Drew Barrymore, I must admit.
