As an online shopping addict it is a very long time since I've shopped without close supervision from MN fashionistas, but DH and I had some childfree shopping time last weekend. What is your verdict on these:

shoes

dress

(not at the same time btw

love the dress!

well done

BunnyLebowski · 23/02/2010 17:21

The dress is really gorgeous! So pretty.

Really don't like the shoes but you must if you bought them so that's fine

Marne · 23/02/2010 17:28

I like the shoes (love Dr M's)

I don't like the dress, just to busy and flowery for me.

janeite · 23/02/2010 17:36

I like the dress, although personally the neckline is too high for me. It looks cute though and could be worn in many different ways in different seasons.

I don't like the shoes, sorry: even though I do like some DM styles I really don't like the clumpy high heel on those.

muddleduck · 23/02/2010 17:49

Janeite - the neckline is very LOW! the pics that are not on the model are a bit misleading as you can see the back of the dress IYKWIM.

glad you like it though

I always go for "clumpy" shoes. I'm very top heavy and feel a bit ridiculous in anything dainty.

am most relieved that you don't all hate both of my purchases - just one of them...

I love the dress, but think sandals would be better with it.

laduree · 23/02/2010 18:16

Love that dress, have been looking at thay myself.Whats the sizing like?

muddleduck · 23/02/2010 18:20

diddl - I did say "not at the same time"

laduree - I'm (usually) a size 12 bottom and 14-16 top. I bought the 14 which fits perfectly. The tie waist and gathering on the top means that it is pretty flexible IYKWIM.

Is it? I might go and investigate it then! It would look nice with a long sleeved t-shirt underneath, cardi over and tights and boots I think.

diddl · 23/02/2010 18:29

Just seen that OP-I missed it by scrolling

What sort of footwear will you wear with the dress? [nosy emoticon](answering optional!)

muddleduck · 23/02/2010 19:13

I was wearing knee high boots and tights when I tried it on which looked suprisingly good IMO. I agree with Janeite about the t-shirt/cardi thing.

I used to have pair of strappy flat black ted baker sandals which would have looked great in the summer but I binned them last year due to tattiness. So not sure...

OP posts:
laduree · 23/02/2010 20:16

Do you think it would look ok with vest underneath in the summer.Think probably a little low cut for me in the day, particularly with my extensive chest. Its such a pretty dress though.

Hve been looking on french connection website, they have a few nice dresses,I particulary like this,www.frenchconnection.com/product/71gc3/summer+lovings+dress.htm,though not sure if it will be bit maternity smock looking....my arms are nowhere as nearly skinny as hers..

muddleduck · 23/02/2010 20:42

at your "extensive chest". I'm a 34gg and I think it looks good on me.

I asked DH if he thought I could wear it to work (with trousers) and he mumbled something about my breasts that I took to mean that it was too revealing. That said, it isn't as low on me as on the model. it is more that the gathering makes is a bit "and here are my breasts" IYKWIM. Bit like some wrap dresses are.

I think this one would work better for you than the one you linked. I'd worry that I'd look pregnant in that one.

laduree · 23/02/2010 20:48

Thats what my first thoughts were, and I really think you should trust your instincts.Do think it is a lovely colour.

Have been having trouble finding clothes that I don't immediately think is it frumpy?Have becomme obsessed with the word!
Have started a thread about monsoon dresses today worrying that they may be frumpy!!!

Cranreuch · 23/02/2010 20:59

I like the dress and that it should work with layers, so you can start wearing it now, in our sub zero temperatures.

I like the dress you linked to laduree, but I don't think it would flatter large norks.

What will you be wearing the shoes with?

muddleduck · 23/02/2010 21:04

shoes for work in winter with opaque tights (colour?) and knee length skirts (brown cord and dark denim).
(my work is pretty casual)

sound reasonable?
