What to wear to a Thanksgiving service?

A friend died this week. It is all very tragic as she leaves three young children.

I can't help but feel that black mourning may not be appropriate as she was a very bright, vibrant person. Would it be OK to wear smart but not black clothes?

I would think if you keep it fairly conservative and modest, the colour is less important. A colleague of mine asked the mourners to wear purple, her favourite colour. Do you know if your friend had a favourite colour - a colored scarfe as a message of rememberance might be appreciated. Think of it from the closest mourners point of view - do you think the widower will be bothered about everyone being in black or will he just be glad you are there showing your respects.

Apologies, I should have said how sorry I am to hear of such a sad event.
