Get some Gok knickers first of all and then choose something that isn't too flimy. Then layer; so longer vest top underneath for example, followed by long sleeve top, followed by shrug. Layering takes the emphasis away from looking at one part (your tummy for example) and instead you'll look slimmer.
As an idea, see here and imagine with a long line vest underneath and a little cardi over the top. The top is more structured.
Patterns will also take away from a bigger tummy here Imagine this cami top with a long line/waterfall cardi (perhaps purple tones) over the top and a nice pair of jeans or linen trousers.

If you've got a big tummy, long tops could make your tummy look bigger as they cling more. I think a better length should stop just below the hips.

luciemule · 22/02/2010 13:25

flimsy not flimy

thanks lucie, that's really helpful. i have also ordered a belly band thing to help haul me in. really gotta pull myself together before i expand anymore

Bumping... I could do with some help in the disguising fat tummy dept too... at certain times of the month I could pass for 6 mo pregnant (not joking)

minko · 23/02/2010 10:16

Good advice from Lucie.
Things that I find help:

  • Layering + waterfall cardie as mentioned.
  • Tops with a cowl neck draw the eye away!
  • Not wearing low-rise jeans as my belly sits above the belt and sticks out more. Higher jeans under long tops works well...
  • Empire lines, though this can make people think you are pregnant. My mum cannot get her head round empire line jumpers and stuff and always asks if I have 'anything to tell her'!
  • Umm, that's about it. I'm joining Weightwatchers this week in a bid to get rid of the belly. Never dieted in my life but things are getting out of control!

my belly band has arrived, so far so good, seems quite comfortable!

Hi Southeastastra - would you mind telling where you got your belly band? I'm also fat of tum and despite having lost a lot of weight over the last year or so this is the one area that still makes me look fat. I think, short of surgery, there isn't much else I can do so a belly band sounds interesting.

southeastastra · 24/02/2010 19:43

mine is the first one here (the £18)

Are they the sort you wear after a baby that the celebs were wearing?

bunjies · 25/02/2010 12:28

Ah I see. Do you find it stays in place? I have a fear of such items riding up or down so that it actually makes my tummy look worse than if I had nothing at all .

minko · 25/02/2010 17:57

Yes, have to say it looks promising but does it roll up, roll down, or stay in the right place. And is it comfy??

southeastastra · 25/02/2010 18:05

it stayed in place when i had it on yesterday evening, it's really nice and comfy. flattened out my wobbly bits . you can at least breathe in it

OP posts:
luciemule · 25/02/2010 18:56

That's good then 'cause the hold-you-in-thing I bought from Next took so much trouble getting into that I only wore it once and decided I'd rather look fat than have pains trying to breathe whilst eating a formal 3 hr dinner!

southeastastra · 25/02/2010 19:06

it's easy to get into once you get it past your hips, it's like wearing a boob tube round your waist. have it on now with low rise jeans and still have a muffin top but i guess that's just fat and it has to go somewhere

Is it supposed to 'knit' your stomach muscles back together - like Angelina had straight after she had the babies? Or is it a more general one?

southeastastra · 26/02/2010 08:11

no, my stomach is past the knitting stage unfortunately . i think it's just to smooth. it didn't roll up last night, i think as it's so long it stays.

i think tulip skirts are the best think ever invented. slimming to the hips but more material to the tum, cut and stitched in a slightly flared way at the waist but tapered at the leg - hides tums perfectly.

southeastastra · 26/02/2010 08:26

will try on a tulip skirt they look nice.
