as in the original stuff that old time hollywood films portray women slathering on with a trowel before they go to bed?

because i've been looking at my (relatively expensive) liz earle cleanse and polish and wondering if now that i'm 37 and my pregnancy is drying out my skin beyond belief i should just go by myself a jar. slather it on, and then wipe off with a hot muslin?

anyone do it?

am v curious.

I have been using cold cream as a cleanser for the last few years. I have combination skin with some really dry patches if I'm not careful. The cold cream makes my skin feel really soft and not at all greasy. The Ponds one smells nicest but there is a really cheap Boots one that does the job. I am a big Cold Cream fan, can you tell?

I've just read in some mag or other that cold cream is good, used with muslin like liz earle stuff.

I tried it for a while but went back to actual cleanser (am using DHC cleansing oil currently). But Ponds is cheap and easily available - give it a go, it can't hurt!

I AM going to give it a go

i'm going to put my hair in a huge turban made of orange silk and slather my face in it and pretend i'm bette davis in mommie dearest (or was that joan crawford, and was there cold cream? might be wrong film but you know what i mean?)

It was Joan Crawford but im not sure if cold cream was involved!! My sister used to use all Chanel skincare but after a friends recommendation she has been using Ponds cold cream for the past few months and swears by it. I have just started using Liz Earle cleanse and polish by the way as my previous cleanser by philosophy was starting to dry out my skin.

Heathcliffscathy · 21/02/2010 18:50

does anyone else actually use it?

I do that with Nivea every night..My dh says I look like a greasy ghost but I dont care..I am very dry and like the way it makes my skin feel.

Heathcliffscathy · 21/02/2010 18:53

dunno..to be honest I dont know what cold cream is but I am dry and it helps..my skin is soft in the morning

I had the same idea a few weeks ago and bought some Ponds. It's pretty good as it doesn't leave my skin dry but I wouldn't say the experience has been life-changing in that it is certainly no worse than other things I have used and better than some.

But it is cheaper, so worth doing, although I find it a faff sometimes and just use one of those instant cloth jobbies. Also it (and I found the same with Liz Earle) is difficult to take off mascara with it and I always resort to proper eye make-up remover as well to stop me rubbing my eyelashes to oblivion.
