Petite maternity jeans?

I'm 5 ft 2 ins, and have quite short legs, so buying normal jeans can be a bit of a saga. Next are pretty much the only place I can guarantee finding normal jeans in the petite range that fit (inside leg 27 and half inches).

I'm currently 17 weeks pregnant, starting to expand out of my usual jeans, and thinking ahead.... Does anyone know where I can buy maternity jeans that are short in the leg? 27/28 inches? Ideally I'd like some bootcut/boyfriend/straightleg jeans (I'm just the wrong shape for skinny jeans, I'm a size 14/16 and look like a fat Womble), but frankly, having done a bit of online browsing, I'm beginning to doubt there's anything out there!

I can't be the first pregnant short woman in the world - our legs don't get longer when we're pregnant, do they - so does anyone have any recommendations?

(I know I can have jeans shortened, and of course I will if I can't find any readymade. I'm also steering clear of leggings - same Womble effect as skinny jeans).

Thoughts appreciated.

I liked the topshop maternity jeans (but needed to wear with high heels as slightly too long).

I'm 5'3" and 29" leg. These were great until I started to look weeble-like in the later stages (having put on 18kg).

Avoid Next maternity jeans - they just fit all wrong and were uncomfy.

Thanks for speedy response! I guess could shorten TS jeans (I don't wear high heels) if they were good fit... I haven't tried any because I just assumed they would be too long. And yes, I've tried 2 pairs of Next maternity jeans on, because they came in shorter lengths - but they were the design without belt loops - half jean, half 'body sock' - and I just thought, nope, not comfy. I should have said in my original post - I do like belt loops and belts.

Ta for thoughts.

Im 4ft 10 so completely understand your pain lol! My DS is nearly 5 now but the only place I could find jeans to fit me when I was pregnant was Dorothy Perkins...the short ones were just about the right length with heels so as you are a bit taller than me they should be ok for you without heels!

Am now starting ttc again so have got my maternity jeans out (only thing I kept lol!) and have given them to my mil who is a whizz with a sewing machine and she is going to narrow the bottoms for me so can wear them as sort of skinny jeans!

I like my mammas and papas ones. They did a range styles and the petite one were perfect on my 27inch legs! I had boyfriend style ones that had belt loops. I didn't like the up and over the bump styles of trousers.

I am 5'1 and found the Dorothy Perkins maternity over the bump jeans were the best thing I bought, fitted fine right up until near due date. Sometimes find that DP petite trousers are too long for me, but these seemed OK.

Red Herring good too.

Seraphine short length should work. And they are brilliant jeans!

MrsJamin · 18/02/2010 13:26

I have New Look petite jeans, they're great and not too pricey.

barkfox · 18/02/2010 14:33

Ah, this is all really helpful, thank you - I'm going to hit Dotty P and NL at the weekend and see what I can find - Seraphine and Mamas and Papas jeans look lovely, I'd be keen to find something cheaper if I can. That said, getting comfy jeans that don't trail and give me flipper feet is a big enough deal that if I have to fork out, I will do so happily.

ihearttc I totally understand that your jeans have taken on heirloom status, I'll be the same if I can find the perfect pair!

Seraphine short length (buy a smaller size than you are because they're big) Mamas and Papas short length (again, quite big), Topshop maternity 30'' leg are good and they tend to bunch up a bit in the leg so you don't need to have them shortened.

I splurged on maternity 'ankle length' jeans by james jeans, which have a 29'' leg. They were just the right length for me (I'm 5'3), slim fit-straight, not skinny, and I am still wearing them now after the birth, not because I have a massive tummy but because they're just regular jeans adapted with a small band for pregnancy so you can wear them forever.

Tbh though I found zara non-maternity jeans were the best, just a stretchy denim so I could do them up under my bump. I think they are 32'' leg or so but always seem the right length on me so may be shorter than that

crumpette · 19/02/2010 11:53

OH! I just remembered I got some great jeans in Gap, they do a short length if you look for it, they're a straight wide-leg with a big bump band in a really fine elasticy fabric which is really soft, they were very good if you want to avoid skinny jeans

barkfox · 20/02/2010 20:49

Thanks Crumpette - Gap short jeans used to fit me okay, so I'll go hunting for the maternity trews (it didn't even occur to me that they did maternity, I don't know why).

I've also ordered some Mamas and Papas jeans and Seraphine in 2 sizes to see if either fit. I've got the bit between my teeth now, and am feeling all militant!

Seraphine are great - the other thing I really recommend is E-bay for maternity clothes (and Seraphine stuff comes up on there quite regularly). I'm 5'1" and find I mind very much less paying to have things shortened if I've only paid £10 for them in the first place.

barkfox · 23/02/2010 11:46

Just an update - still haven't struggled into Dotty P's yet, but is next on my list - however, Mamas and Papas boyfriend jeans fit PERFECTLY! I ordered on the smaller side after crumpette's tip off about sizes -

So now I've got perfect length (short!), lovely fit jeans, plus the (misleading but hey) feeling that I've dropped a jeans size (down to size 14).

I immediately went to order another identical pair, but they're out of stock, would you believe. There must be a lot of short womble-legged ladies out there.

Anyway, I'm much happier and comfier now, thank you for the help.
