Totally clueless about makeup...Please help!

I am clueless. I don't wear anything in general, but my skin is truly horrific (blackheads, redness, uneven), so I am starting to think I am going to have to wear something... The question is, what? I hate the heavy feeling of foundation and don't want to look and feel really made up, but powder only serves to highlight my facial fuzz. Is tinted moisturiser the thing, or will this only serve to make me greasier? And if so, which one?

This whole thing is complicated by the fact that I live in a tiny and remote town, so can't go to a dept store and try things out. But I have realised that I am too old to pull off the barefaced look any more! (If I ever did...)

Yes to tinTed mosituriser. Laura Mercier is excellent. (can get online from space NK) What is your colouring? You can order stuff from QVC and send it back if you don't like it after trying it out. They do lots of good brands like smashbox and bobbi brown.

Colouring fair-ish. Hazel eyes and mouse hair...

If you are ordering something from space NK, ask them to send you some free sample sachets of 'Pores no More' refiner. I wear it under foundation and think it is amazing in both the appearance of foundation as a result and the feel of the refiner. But it costs a lot so you should try a sample first.

In fact, I would describe your skin type to Space NK, explain your location problem and ask them if they can send you a variety of samples that they think could work.

PinkyDink · 16/02/2010 15:34

So what's going on with your skin? IMO this needs to be sorted first as make-up might add to the problem.
However, in the mean time have you tried minerals? they are meant to be good for the skin

My skin has always been like this, so I don't know. (In my adult life anyway.)I do all the drinking lots of water, regular cleansing and moisturising, nothing too harsh stuff. Occasional facials and things have never made a lot of difference...

I will see if Space NK can be persuaded to send me any free things...
