Good parka?

Am looking for a really good parka that manages to be funky, classic and practical at the same time. Has to have classic furry hood trim, don't mind a bit of quilting, but nothing too Michelin Man, and must be bum-length, rather than waist length. Ideally black, though would consider dark brown, dark green perhaps. Must be seriously waterproof. Willing to spend up to £200 on something special, but would much rather find a cracker around the £100 mark. Am based in London.

Thanks if anyone can help

Thanks coffee mum, I could have written that post myself...I just hadn't got round to it. Although don't want black, preferably green.

Anybody any ideas?

CoffeeMum · 16/02/2010 13:07

Annoying isn't it? I am currently wearing a Primark one which i love, but isn't exactly an investment purchase and is starting to look very scruffy. I essentially need the deluxe version of it!

i could do with one of these too! i'm not based in london though, am in the north west, but happy to buy online.

tethersend · 16/02/2010 13:51

This sort of thing? Or different?

Cyb · 16/02/2010 13:53

if its a puffa style you are after, loads on ebay, per-una ones (don't let that put you off), they are quite nice

CoffeeMum · 16/02/2010 13:55

Thanks for the link Tethersend - that is actually very, very close to what i'm looking for, nice one. Just not keen on the nipped in waist, or the gathering around the hems and cuffs...i'm bloody fussy unfortunately, though you wouldn't think it to look at me!

Espirit though...i never look in there, and i've just been recommended to try shopping there on another thread, so it is definitely going to be my first port of call on my next shopping trip.

Thanks Cyb - i'm not looking for a puffa style specifically, i just don't mind if it has a bit of quilting. Don't really want to add too much extra bulk if i can help it...

Also, Ebay - don't really want to go down the second hand route as this coat is going to be really heavy usage, so if it's second hand to start with, it's going to look scruffier more quickly...

Thanks for your reply

oh they were new ones..I'm 'watching' a couple as we speak...

CoffeeMum · 16/02/2010 15:54

ooh, didn't know there was new stuff on Ebay too [dense icon]...will go and have a look now...thank you!

this?

runforit · 16/02/2010 17:22

whoops no furry hood...will look again!

runforit · 16/02/2010 17:29

this?

mrsbabookaloo · 16/02/2010 17:42

hmm...almost, runforit, but what's with all the elasticated waists? For me, it needs to be a bit more rugged, like a military parka, or the old school ones everybody wore in the early 80s with bright orange lining...!

tethersend · 16/02/2010 17:51

This any good?

CoffeeMum · 18/02/2010 10:35

Runforit - yes, that's so close, thank you! But yes, am just very hesitant about the elasticated waist...

Tethersend - that could be the one, or as near as damnit. Baby needs feeding, but will be back for a closer look - and if LaRedoute have shops maybe i can go and see it 'in the flesh'.

Thanks all, most helpful

Oh yes, like that Very website too, will be having a closer look at that...

tethersend - wow! You are brilliant at this. You should charge. (but not to us, obviously)

CoffeeMum · 18/02/2010 11:50

Seconded - tethersend, that was very impressive!

Now, are Le Redoute internet/catalogue only?

OP posts:
tethersend · 18/02/2010 14:59

Aw shucks, guys.

Well, here's the downside... LaRedoute are catalogue only, and they appear to only have a size 14 left in black; from experience, I know that it is worth checking back or giving them a ring as their stock updates frequently, and other sizes come back into stock.

silver28 · 18/02/2010 23:13

The have the La Redoute one on Amazon in more sizes (although not all sizes) and in both colours.

kateecass · 19/02/2010 20:35

Thanks!! Saw this and bought the Very one. It was supposed to arrive today, but they may have tried when I went out. I got £10 off and free postage!!
Will report back when it arrives.

sansucre · 19/02/2010 21:16

Although it doesn't have a fur trim, I have a very lovely parka from Comptoir des Cotonniers, so I'd recommend that you look there - it's somewhere between a very dark green/grey, is mid-thigh length (at least it is on me, I'm 5.5) and it has a detachable very warm lining, I've tried and failed to find you a picture* but it's the best thing I've ever bought. I've purchased it last October and it's barely been off my back since, so I think it was £168 very well spent.

Oh, and I've been caught in the rain and the while my parka has got soaked, I haven't as the rain hasn't got past the lining!

**It's on their website but I can't link to the actual picture - sorry

kateecass · 20/02/2010 14:50

My very parka arrived today. Am really pleased with it. Nice and cosy. Like the hood. It's quite flattering. BUT it is not waterproof and zip is a bit difficult. It would withstand some rain. Still keeping it though cos it's a bargain.
