Ugh. My dds would hate it all.

nowadoubledee · 15/02/2010 16:57

I don't understand the sizing ...what does small medium & large equate to? in dress sizes I mean

GossamerBeynon · 15/02/2010 17:23

I am so disappointed with this range! I had been looking forward to it having a daughter who is the target and hoping for good quality basic stuff. The prices are ridiculous - clearly they never bothered to actually look at their competition. $56 for a hoodie. I can easily buy one in abercrombie/hollister for half that. The sizing is totally baffling. Should have asked me!

vesela · 16/02/2010 07:43

This strappy dress in red is nicer than any of the dresses in the adult range, but a L would be too small for me (86-91.5 cm chest). Blue shirt dress not bad either.

I quite like this too, and even the hotchpotch tops are a tiny bit more tasteful than their adult equivalents. But then mothers lose it, don't they.

MaineGirl · 16/02/2010 11:23

the girls stuff is lovely and very up todate. although am dreading it if tiny minis still in fashion when my dd's old enough to care about wearing trendy clothes.
the boys is ok, one or two pieces but i doubt i will be able to convert my ds1 from his jack wills/a&f/hollister addiction.
i do think if it takes off the range will extend over time and have more key pieces in, one of the reason si love mini boden for my dc is that its not too grown up and has younger looks for boys wear as i have an aversion to character wear and tops with slogans such as i don;t care and it wasn;t me.

hippipotamiHasLost79lbs · 16/02/2010 11:33

Why are all the clothes wrinkled? (acutally no, don't answer that, it is because 'tis cool and grungy non?)

Only looked at the boys range - ds is 10 but in age 12 clothes (damn those Dutch giant's genes) and feel a bit meh about it all.

Lots of people are mentioning Jack Willis, A&F and Hollister for their teens. Are these online? If so, linky please..

what about his comment in Too nice for knickers article in Style magazine from the Times! Johnnie says quietly "they lose it, mothers. don't they? and that is why we speak to them quite directly. Because they completely lose it." Maybe I should be pleased never to have owned a Boden item of clothing! I must never have lost it. I know for sure, I will never buy now. I'm with JSP all the way!!

MaineGirl · 16/02/2010 12:31

www.jackwills.com www.hollisterco.com and www.abercrombie.com for teenage sizes from the usa or www.abercrombie.co.uk if adult sizes from the uk

hippipotamiHasLost79lbs · 16/02/2010 13:15

Thank You MaineGirl - have bookmarked those and will let ds have a look when he is back from his friend's house later.

MaineGirl · 16/02/2010 13:37

cleavage and mini skirts on under 16 girls fine, but not on Mummies, Nice!

GossamerBeynon · 16/02/2010 14:37

I ended up ordering quite a few things for my 11yo in the end. I think it is definitely aimed at the US market as many of the pieces are totally indistinguishable from stuff in the stores (abercrombie etc) here at the moment. I still think that the prices are a little on the high side. The Hollister/Abercrombie brand here has suffered a backlash recently (as shown by their stock price) and you can walk into the stores and they are pretty much empty. Kids are definitely wearing way less stuff emblazoned with logos. They are really trying though and certainly on the younger ranges have toned down the more sexualized advertising and turned the volume of the music down (and the lights up) and dropped the cooler than everyone patter. Aeropostale (much cheaper) and American Eagle are taking over from the bigger names.

SueW · 16/02/2010 15:02

Cooler than everyone patter in Hollister and A&F? I thought they were only allowed to say 'How's it going?' if they are draped over the staircase! We walked out of A&F on 5th Avenue because the queue was so long (having queued to get in there!)

WRT to Johnnie B, I have that beach bag already. I got it free with a magazine a couple of years ago. Obv it's not branded Johnnie B but it looks almost the same and didn't cost $58!

I think the range will be fine for 9-11yos who are too small for A&F/Hollister/Jack Wills but the most popular items from there for teens IME (work in a boarding school) are hoodies and trackpants and they are pretty lacking in Johnnie B.

MaggieMaeve · 16/02/2010 17:18

That johnnie b stuff is the same as the ordinary range isn't it. had a quick look. i don't see any thing new there.

MaggieMaeve · 16/02/2010 17:22

oh, i see it now. all very dull.

dexter73 · 16/02/2010 17:54
