So are Diane von Furstenberg dresses worth it?

Right, I will be getting some money tomorrow (yay!) and am in the process of upgrading my work wardrobe.

One of the things that I have considered getting is a DvF wrap dress this one in particular, but, are they worth it? Do they really last years? Anyone know?

I would be more inclined to get something that will tie in with more than one season and jazz it up with accessories.

It is quite a bold print- lovely colours mind you.

It's all down to personal taste of course- and for the record- they do wear very well- 2 and a half years before most of mine started looking tired.

skybluewinking · 15/02/2010 00:37

I love that , I have got one, but have hardly worn it as I am in plaster from the knee down for the 2nd time, and it's not a great look!
My one is beautifully made and the quality far superior to the LK Bennet copies I have.

I love DvF dresses. I have two, one is 8 years old and still looking good. Definitely worth it.

SerenityNowakaBleh · 15/02/2010 10:12

Hmmm ... maybe better to go for a plain one instead?

Yes they are brilliant and they last for years. Very flattering too.

hf128219 · 15/02/2010 10:24

Absolutely - I've got several and they all look almost brand new. Can be dressed up or down. There is an outlet shop at Bicester Village - I went there recently and got a great skirt and cardigan. They had quite good stock - wrap dresses et al.

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 15/02/2010 10:26

yes. look at the way the fabric has been cut so that the waist darkens and the legs go paler, v flattering. that's why she's good.
i have one of that style, iwth the collar and three quarter cuffed sleeves and the just above the knee skirt. it's my favourite of her dresses.

ForestFire · 15/02/2010 10:29

lol at " can be dressed up or down"

well not really can it.
I mean youd look a freak at a rave in one.

hf128219 · 15/02/2010 10:35

Of course they can be dressed up or down.

Polo neck underneath, knee high boots, chunky cardigan for casual.

Just as they are with high heels for more formal.

they are a bit Princess anne in a headscarf liek that imo

hf128219 · 15/02/2010 10:39

That depends on the person wearing them!

sfxmum · 15/02/2010 10:40

I really want one of these, maybe 2 an easy evening one and a day one
just about the only thing I ever lusted over clothes wise

SerenityNowakaBleh · 15/02/2010 10:44

ARe they lined at all? (worried about it clinging to my stomach)

OP posts:
BettyButterknife · 15/02/2010 10:46

I love my DVF dress - I have a shirt dress rather than a wrap one, and it's beautiful. Am too fat for it now though

AitchTwoOhOneOh · 15/02/2010 10:47

nope, not lined. but a heavy silk so not bad at all for clingage.

Hopefully · 15/02/2010 12:32

I have a friend who swears by DVF dresses, and she does always look v slim and stylish, so they must be good!

I reckon you should go for the bold print - you don't want to spend all that money on a dress and not have anyone notice you, do you?!

SerenityNowakaBleh · 15/02/2010 12:37

Yes, I'm thinking about the prints. The plain ones are in viscose, rather than silk. Just not as exciting, is it?

Barbsieboo · 15/02/2010 12:42

They are amazing and fit beautifully - budget for same amazing underwear as well. I think buy the print you like and will suit you best colour wise. Let us know how you get on........

SerenityNowakaBleh · 15/02/2010 13:06

Thank you! You have convinced me. Think I'm going to make my way over to the store this weekend to buy one SCREAM

Barbsieboo · 15/02/2010 13:15

It will be money well spent so enjoy!!

I really like DVF and Issa dresses.

I realised a few years back that my shortish, boobyish, large-thighed frame (actually I'm only a size 10-12 but little) really only suited clothes that fitted well and basically really only dresses.

SO I've been buying DVF and Issa dresses (and some TopShop jersey dresses and a

The best long lasting DVF dresses are in a more neutral/black print -- something like black and tan, with the print not too big. The standard long sleeve collared knee-length silk jersey gives you a lot of bang for your buck and can be casualed up a bit too with flats and cardis.

I do have some other DVF items, such as a wool puff sleeve red dress and a big pouffy summer number in red and white leaf pattern but she also favours chiffon, which ain't my bag.

The silk knit is great and feels like a dream on.

Buy magic knickers too and a camisole.
