This year I have returned to university to after climbing one career ladder and am having to really economise. I have never spent a lot on individual products, but always bought a lot of bits in an effort to make me feel a bit less like a slummy mummy. Now I can't afford my usual scattergun approach to buying everything that catches my eye, so I need some focus!
What are your best, cheap recommendations (I could probably stretch to a tenner at a push) for skin, hair, and make-up?
Thanks in advance.

rimmel foundations and pressed powders are excellent and often on offer in boots

rimmel mascara also excellent

bourjois blushers and lip glosses

barry m nail varnishes

baby oil for taking off eye make up, and for putting in the bath and using on dry skin

dove shampoos and conditioners and tresemme are good value and decent quality

Loads of bargainous stuff on this website and very reliable speedy delivery. I go for Revlon, Stila, Mac, BeneFit, Urban Decay, Lancombe, Dior etc but only if drastically reduced! Mac lipsticks rule. Lancombe or Urban Decay lip glosses are good. Max Factor mascaras are the bees knees. My absolute must have product, often available for well under a tenner, is Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream - great for chapped lips, dry hands and elbows and parched feet and ankles....

I use Boots Natural Collection liquid cover up and it's £1.99 and far better than the Clinique one I spent 10x on.

Barry M nail varnishes here too, good coverage and loads of colours.

You can get 900ml bottles of TreSemme in Superdrug for £2 at the moment. I have had my most recent one for over 6 months and got new supplies today.

ooh nice site sparkle

i quite like alot of the tesco make up for eyeshadows and concealers

LouIsOnAHighwayToHell · 11/02/2010 20:34

Superdrug optimum moisturiser - just as good and even better actually then my usual clinique/estee lauder combo
Ponds - cold cream cleanser
Ponds - super intensive night cream
Sainsburys - cleanser and scrub
St Ives - scrubs
Some random superdrug brand lip and cheek tint. It's a knock off benefit one but I can't tell the difference.

southeastastra · 11/02/2010 20:35

lots of products are much cheaper in superdrug. i buy a face cream that's £10 in tesco and boots and a fiver always in superdrug

Avon - some really good stuff and lots of things on offer. My moisturiser is £10 full price but often half price so I buy it up then. Also like most of their make-up - and you can return it within 90 days if you don't like it.

Tesco make-up good too.

3 for 2 on the no 7 counter

poorbuthappy · 11/02/2010 22:26

Aldi's new concealer...think it called Lacura beauty or something? Very good, much like Touche Eclat and costs... £3.59!

Wigglesworth · 11/02/2010 22:41

Simple cleansing and moisturising products are all under £5 and are fab.
If you have longish hair that needs body then velcro rollers are fab (bodycare do packs of 10 for a couple of quid), put them in damp hair and spray with gel spray, put your hairdryer on them for 5 or 10 mins on hot setting and let them cool for about an hour. When you take them out you will be left with full bodied beautiful tresses.
Palmers coco butter is by far the best body lotion I have ever used (and I have tried loads) and it's less than a fiver for a bottle.

These are brilliant - thanks everyone.
Keep em coming!
