funky, slogan-free, affordable, bright coloured clothes for boys

Does all the above actually exist for boys or are they doomed to wear a dull colour palette with stupid designs on? Either that or we pay £50 for something they'll get a months wear out of. I love rainbowbabies but the stuff is so summery and there's only so much layering you can get away with before limbs go stiff!

No, you're only allowed to dress little boys in baby blue or beige, and bigger boys in navy blue, grey, brown or black

(I have, however, found Pumpkin Patch sometimes have slightly more interesting colours)

H&M basics - bright colours, wear and wash really well, not too pricey. Some of their other stuff is dull and slogany but the basic t shirts and vests are fab. I struggle to think of anywhere else... Gap sometimes, but pricier. DS has lots of charity shop stuff and hand-me-downs.

Kids should be kids' are good, lots of nice unisex stuff.

Plain tops

Stripy tops

Narrow stripy tops

I quite like German brand Jako-O as well, but obv with the exchange rate as it is they are more expensive than they used to be. They do deliver to the UK though, and v. good customer service.

Otherwise you have to go for the expensive Skandiwegian brands like Okker Gokker or Polarn y pyret (or whatever they're called).

Chillohippi · 10/02/2010 14:01

Have you tried Sainsburys? They always seem to have packs of three tops in bright colours and stripes.

IWillNotNeverEatATomato · 10/02/2010 14:01

Try Sainsbury's (particularly when they have one of there 25% off clothes weeks)

they have lots of choice and the clothes are good enough quality that my 3yo has never gone through the knees of anything and nothing has shrunk.
they do tend to come up quite large for my skinny DS but trousers are adjustable and often come with belts.

Mini Mode are worth keeping an eye on. Sometimes they do gorgeous colours for boys, although it's looking fairly blue and brown at the moment.

gillythekid · 10/02/2010 14:10

Ahhhh, yes H&M, wonderful till they get to around 2 then it's beige city. Gap has got a bit disappointing with their colours lately. Mini Mode generally have some good colours but then have stupid slogans or pictures of crocodiles/firemen/dragons on! Unfortunately my local Sainsbury's don't stock clothes and it's miles to the bigger store.

John Lewis was looking quite attractive when I was mooching around there recently. There was lots of stuff in good strong colours that would suit him. He has enough clothes though, DD is the one who needs a full summer wardrobe and JL was a sea of blah-pink for girls.

gillythekid · 10/02/2010 14:23

Ok, when we find the mythical funky, slogan free boys clothes, how affordable do we want them to be? I won't pay £20 for something he'll only wear for 2-3 months (DS is 18M) Personally, I rummage through TK Maxx clearance then wait till the GAP and H&M sales but I'd love to be able to find stuff for under a tenner online.

Well bran, let's open it up to unisex in an effort to pink-dodge. Are there any unisex labels?

Gilly, I did go to the trouble of posting the links before:

KIDS SHOULD BE KIDS

Unisex, online and under a tenner.

Bingo.

gillythekid · 11/02/2010 19:05

Thanks frogs sorry, I did see it and I love the stripey tops but there's little else on there that isn't baby blue or beige don't you think?

I like Frugi clothes, bit pricey but they are beautiful quality and have a good sale on at the moment.

There are a few monster tops but also lots of nice stuff too.

I agree that H+M is great until they get to 18 months and then it all turns slogan ridden and horrid.

My reliable fav is John Lewis, although I didn't think last season's stuff was as colourful as usual. Haven't inspected the new stuff yet.

I also like Sainsburys childrens' clothes for cheapy tops that seem to last well.

Hi

I have just posted a new thread about a site I found that have soybean protein fibre clothing.

The clothing is brand-free, superfunky, modern and a lot of unisex clothing. I think it will be interesting to have a look. The web is www.babysoy.co.uk

I have bought some items so I will share the results soon!
