Navy and cream dress, what colour shoes for wedding?

Adair · 09/02/2010 21:38

Wedding in MArch. In Scotland (but indoors !)

Am wearing a lovely dress - Navy crochet with cream lace edging, 60s shift style. Thought I'd do cream tights and cardi and...

yellow? pink? navy? shoes?

Maybe wedges or kitten heels?

Dress is fairly short (not a church wedding)but high neck so not tarty.

Can't do proper heels anyway.

happy to look at links, but will be heading to the market/cheapy shoe shops to find a cheap copy

Help!

Having looked for boots - am now thinking might not be a good look if your dress is a delicate pretty one.

traceybath · 10/02/2010 19:35

Skinny legs fine in cream tights .

tethersend · 10/02/2010 19:37

Sorry lucie, but the idea of a brown cord skirt and brown boots just made me a bit sick in my mouth...

Each to their own though, eh?

luciemule · 10/02/2010 19:45

okay - I feel as though I have to justify my brown boots/brown skirt, vomit inducing scenario; I was imagining someone on a freezing cold beach with some funky 'fatface' style boots, maybe cable knit cream tights and a cord /denim skirt (mini)- didn't have to be brown, wearing a big puffa/warm type coat and a beanie cable knit hat. I reckon they'd be walking a scruffy looking dog too.
Hope this kind of makes up for the pukey feeling you got Tether.
Will slink off now and leave you all discuss cream tights some more .

tethersend · 10/02/2010 20:04

I think it just made it worse, lucie! I break out in a rash just passing fatface shops!

The words 'cable' and 'knit' in the same sentence also make me come over all unnecessary.

The puffa jacket and denim mini are just too much for me.

I am undone.

tethersend · 10/02/2010 20:05

Arrgh, that sounded nasty. It wasn't meant to be. I am just stuck in my ways

hairyarseddave · 10/02/2010 20:12

You might get away with a metallic wedge (silver) - sometimes works as a neutral

Not sure what your budget is but these are quite comfortable (though expensive) here LTEC recommended them to me and they are lovely (plus they have a navy too which could work)

wubblybubbly · 10/02/2010 20:16

love the mary jane link from tethersend, think they'd look great with cream tights and navy/cream short dress. Very chic.

Adair · 10/02/2010 20:29

Yes, I agree re Mary Janes, think that's what I am looking for (and has a bit of silver glitz too). What's an EEE though?

Thanks! Would never have thought of cream shoes

OP posts:
tethersend · 10/02/2010 20:41

They have them in an E fitting here also- they will be wide, but shouldn't be too much; most normal shoes are a D width. EEE would probably be too wide for you I think.

Adair · 10/02/2010 21:40

Right, dress is similar to the Crochet Tunic (scroll down) but has no pockets, has a cream lace trim on the hem, cream beads on the bib/collar part and looks, ahem, a bit more expensive. It's by Yumi too, but can I find an image?!

I am considerably shorter than Sienna I think so it's not so mini. With cream tights and shoes, it's ok for a wedding, isn't it?

at Tethersend comment.
I was kind digging myself in deeper and I had this kind of Boden/fatface-esque picture in my head that went skew-wiff.

Adair - glad you've put a piccie on - the dress is stunning and very vintage cute. Contrary to my previous posts, most of the time, I'm okay at matching up clothes for outfits. And in my book, if you've got slim legs, you can wear pretty much anything!
Have a fab time at the wedding.

tethersend · 10/02/2010 21:58

Oh lucie, I'm sorry! I'm sure you would recoil in horror at some of the things in my wardrobe

Love the dress Adair, great for a wedding, you will look stunning

What are you doing with your hair/accessories?

Adair · 10/02/2010 22:16

My hair is short, bit like Sarah Harding, though shorter (and not bleached at the moment). So won't really do anything with it! Might have to have a bag.
Bracelet?
Er...

(ps I actually really like the whole Boden/fatface/Joe Brown's thing!)

wubblybubbly · 12/02/2010 22:45

Ooh yes Adair, they look good . What colour are you going with for the jacket/cardi?

Adair · 12/02/2010 22:55

I dont' know!! Gonna have to go to some real shops soon. And try stuff out...

OP posts:
tethersend · 12/02/2010 23:41

Marvelous!

But if you get a cardi, I will have to kill you

This and this are waaay over budget but could look great- perhaps there is something similar in Primani? I also like this but understand if you don't.

Or perhaps something more luxurious in this style?

wubblybubbly · 13/02/2010 10:50

Adair, I dreamt about your outfit last night!

Have you checked out LaRedoute? I spotted this cardi (shhh - don't tell tethersend)

They've got stacks of stuff, loads of jackets too and the prices start off pretty low.

Adair · 14/02/2010 19:23

Ahhh, thanks all. I am veering towards a smart indoor jacket or cardi as it will all be indoors. Am not really a blazer person though... swing style I think good though...

BUT I tried the dress and tights on last night and it is Very Short so am now wobbling. And my cream tights - hmmm...

Will take pics and let you lot decide!!
