Protect & Perfect, is it supposed to make my skin peel?

I bought some No7 Protect & Perfect Beauty Serum 3 weeks ago for the first time as I'd read such rave reviews. In fact I bought 3 tubes as it was by 2 get 1 free and I had a £5 off No7 voucher.

The thing is, it has been making my skin, especially on my forehead, really dry and peely. This might sound dim, but is it supposed to, as in is this how it reveals the lovely glowing skin by peeling off the old dead skin, or am I having a bit of a bad reaction to it? I do have sensitive skin, normally just use aveeno. has anybody else had this happen?

There is retinol in P&P which could be too strong for your skin, I would take it all back to Boots and they should refund you if it doesn't suit your skin. Larger Boots stock La Roche Posay, which has a great range for sensitve skin, lots of dermatologists recommend to to their patients.

Stop using it! Really really not supposed to make you peel.

For the first two weeks I used it it was brilliant, made me all smooth and glowy and whatnot. Then I started to peel like you and go blotchy: it is way too strong for me to use every day.

I now use it about once a week and it does still make my skin softer I think (and no peeling). So you could try seeing if less frequent applications work.

but if not Verity is right, you should get your money back! (Boots are pretty good about refunds)

Thanks all, think I'll stick to my aveeno, and feeling slightly at thinking it was supposed to do that, can you tell I don't try these things often?!

can I just check though - you were still using a moisturizer too weren't you?

It is a serum and does not moisturise at all - you have to put a mosisturizer on afterwards as you usally would....
if you were not then your skin would get really really dry after a week or two

Yes, was using my aveeno moisturizer too, although admittedly not because I knew you were meant too, but because my skin still felt a bit tight after the serum, I know nothing!

If anyone is still reading, you seem to know a bit more about these things than me, another question. Like I said I have quite sensitive skin, it is naturally quite dry, but I also get spots. Whenever I read about skin types there seem to be 3 main ones mentioned, Oily, dry and combination. I figured mine must be combination as I have dry skin that is also greasy and spotty, (sounds lovely doesn't it) however my problem is my skin is dry and spotty in the same areas, my forehead, nose and chin, my cheeks are fine.

Can you recommend anything to help with the spots that won't result in sore dry skin?

Oil cleansing method! see eg this thread.

Or facial oil, overnight.

Works for me.

Protect and perfect made the skin round my eyes red and puffy - it was like an allergic reaction. I thought it was my hair mousse at first so stopped using that, then realised it was the P&P. Clearly Boots have a problem with this product. I never thought about taking it back.... Thought it was just me. Good old MN

Thanks aquavit, will definitely give that a go!
