AJ's great big wardrobe clear-out... Anyone want to join me?

GULP!
It's a big task that needs doing...
The final straw came today when I found a brand new bold red silk Karen Millen dress that has never been (and will never be) worn by me. My shelves are stuffed with skinny-rib tops that are way too tight for my post babies figure and just don't suit the current me. I have lots of good quality clothing that I find difficult to part with. It'd take me forever to e-bay it all, but I could do with some cash. (for new things )
Oh and there's a lot that would fit once I shed the final half stone .
Anyone else in for a clear out?

I was meaning in an online MN sale kinda way

AngelinaJolly · 06/02/2010 20:24

I'd be too embarrassed of you stylish ladies would think- I do like to pretend I'm cool.

Just been trying to weed out clothes- I was practically sponsored by Jigsaw 7 years ago. Just found a yellow Radley bag (what worse Radley or yellow? at least no bloody dogs on it) and some super 1970's white wedge platforms

Any of that take your fancy Geordieminx??

The red KM sounds beautiful - although I'm guessing if its too small for you I'd have no chance.

Thankfully Sadly not a Radly fan - although they always seem to sell well on ebay! Although a pic might persuade me to buy it for my mum.

How 70's are the platforms? Fancy dress type 70's or cool in a retro kinda way?

And FWIW, I think of you as one of the S&B'ers

LetThemEatCake · 06/02/2010 20:52

oooh AJ. am in the midst of doing the same,

ebay is a killer though .. have een listing 3-4 things a week, can't cope with any more than that.

over on the shop more wisely thread, there's a lot of "I have this if anyone's interested .. " - head over there.

I always think of you as being very cool and stylish too

LetThemEatCake · 06/02/2010 20:53

been listing

AngelinaJolly · 06/02/2010 21:03

Spend less.....ahahahhhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

cookielove · 06/02/2010 21:08

I tried to do an empty out, i give my stuff to charity though. Not a lot got put in the bag, but to be fair i do love it all so much, and i do wear it. So i can justify keeping some of it.

I have a pair of, thin jeans sitting on the top of my wardrobe, i would love to be able to get back into them and i will not get rid of them.

LetThemEatCake · 06/02/2010 21:13

ahem, I'm not entirely sure that spending less is in the spirit of the thread. Spending less compulsively, certainly

nomorecake · 06/02/2010 21:51

AJ - i've planned to clear some wardrobe space tomorrow.

i'm fed up of opening the wardrobe and staring at clothes that i cant wear for 10 mins!

former work clothes, suits etc i still cant bare to part with, will be boxed up.

tatty ( and too small) house clothes binned.

size 12 casuals charity shop. i'm going to bid a fond farewell to my beloved pre babies favourite jeans, i dont think i'll ever get into them.

size 14+16 to keep (fingers crossed) for after this pregnancy.

also planning on going through 'jewelry'.

i think it will be a difficult but hopefully liberating!

good luck with yours!

AngelinaJolly · 06/02/2010 23:26

Hi nomorecake- when are you due?
I'm finding that there are so many decent clothes that I could wear however I have far nicer/ cooler/ newer items that I'd readily choose over the older clothes. Also I just don't go out as much as I used to- so no point having so much to choose from
Also some items don't show off my best bits and since having kids I'm not as body-confident so it's important to me to stick to things that make me feel good as a busy mother of two.
My plan:-

E-bay one-off items that I wouldn't choose given the other great clothes I have (the KM dress for example). Things with a good name sell best. The disco shoes that I can no longer stand up in etc...

Keep hold of the trousers that really flatter- just in case my social life does get better!

Donate to charity shop the items in good nick but ridiculously small for me or hopelessly out of fashion.

Allow myself to keep only a handful of sentimental garments, but keep the crazy vintage stuff for my girls (dressing up etc).

Remind myself that I'm more grown up now and if I really want something I have no problem going out and buying it for myself. Therefore I really don't need to hold onto old T-shirts in case of a sudden clothes shortage. In fact there are plenty of people out there who's needs are greater.
