When I was pregnant I was very lucky in that the season's trend was smock tops. So I never needed to buy maternity clothes, I just bought normal tops in onee size bigger than usual and it fit a treat . No idea what non-pregnant women wore that spring, poor dears!

In general though, Mothercare only for basics like vests. I would add tees too, but they manage to spoil it with cheesy slogans

yy to Gap and Debenhams, very nice clothes and kind to expanding bosoms and bumps

Alicetheinvisible · 06/02/2010 12:00

I don't know if you have an M&co (used to be McKays) near you, but we have one in our town (it is the only place that sells kids clothes in town)They had a sale of adult clothes the other day and had long tunics and long tops from £5.

I think Debenhams have some decent stuff

Heathcliffscathy · 06/02/2010 12:46

thanks ladies!

Don't buy maternity - buy stretchy wool or jersey dresses, they're everywhere at the mo. They took me through my whole pregnancy and cling to the bump so they make you look pregnant instead of tent-like.

I bought a whole load of Isabella Oliver stuff and was disappointed with most of it. They have good pregnancy leggings though (although you need to be at least 7 ft tall to wear them) which go well with the aforesaid stretchy dresses.

blossoming · 06/02/2010 14:45

When I was pregnant last year I bought loads of mamas and papas stuff. It was those clothes that I wore over and over. I had a great swimming costume for summer from picchu maternity, and a bandeau style evening dress from them too. Finally jeans, designer: 7 for all mankind, and I hear good things about Citizens of Humanity too. Availabe at Blossom.co.uk and another website mama-la-mode I think.

Heated · 06/02/2010 17:12

Looked for these stretchy jersey dresses, StepfordWeeble and can't find any but they sound fab. Where did you buy yours from?

StepfordWeeble · 06/02/2010 19:14

Hmm, I can't honestly describe my style as funky - the dresses I chose were more boring conservative because of my job. So you might not like the kinds of dress I wore - but that massively depends on the print, non?

I bought my dresses last summer/autumn so they aren't still about but I got them from Gap, Fenn Wright Manson and LK Bennett. I remember that Gap did some great tunic dresses that I wore all summer and their turnover is pretty quick so there's always something new there.

The ones I wore were more in the Boden camp - eg this type of thing and I did have a couple of T-shirty ones like the Stripe Basic Body Con Dress from Whistles. This French Connection one is pretty too.

If you search ASOS for "jersey dress" it comes up with quite a few and some of them might meet the funkyness requirement! But I'd have a wander about and streeeetch any dress which catches your eye.

StepfordWeeble · 06/02/2010 19:17

PS I've now stopped streeetching dresses in shops to see if they fit my tummy and moved onto yanking the neckline to see if they will allow my boobs to be whipped out on a moment's notice...

Heated · 06/02/2010 20:05

Sophable is funky, I'm much tamer.

Thank you very much for going to the trouble of searching out links, StepfordWeeble Next week will go an investigate the stretchyness of dresses, particularly Gap, H&M and JL for Whistles etc. My problem is much of what I wear for work is structured or very fitted, not much room for expansion!

notnowbernard · 06/02/2010 20:07

I'm 15w and feeling BIG (it's 3rd DC)

Am living in leggings and tunic tops/dresses

StepfordWeeble · 06/02/2010 21:12

This could be good for work if it stretches enough...

MarineIguana · 06/02/2010 21:17

Non-maternity White Stuff stretchy viscose wrap dresses and knit tunic tops, and also long rib tops from Jack Wills and Gap - I'm still wearing these at 34 weeks and huge and they're still fitting fine.

Next or New Look for jeans.

Heated · 06/02/2010 21:40

That Planet dress is absolutely beautiful.

Am off to browse White stuff for stretchy clothes. No way will I fit into my standard size, a WStuff 12 was always a tad snug across the chest before and assumed a 14 would be all out of proportion.

Sunshinemummy · 06/02/2010 21:45

Can I mention French Connection. A lot of their stuff is cut for pregnant women something they're aware of but don't advertise. Worth checking out.

EdgarAllenSnow · 07/02/2010 09:31

noppies

queen mum

both lovely Dutch maternity wear names,
#the dress i linked to first was so nice my sister bought it even though she isn't duffy.
I have one in brown that is v. comfortable - am 12 weeks pregnant and this time my body is just giving up on keeping the bump small!!

i also have empire-line and kimono style dresses that were great all the way into late pregnancy - from New Look and Monsoon. New look sometimes does reasonable maternity items.
